Excellent for overexcited dog in car
Wish I could give this product 10 stars. This bark collar totally changed my experience driving in the car with my dog. He used to be extremely overexcited and overstimulated in the car - nonstop piercing barking, pacing back and forth from window to window in the back seat, lunging at passing trucks, foamy bark spit everywhere. It was not just stressful but also distracting and dangerous. I found myself not wanting to take him places because being in the car with him was so miserable. This product was recommended to me by my professional dog trainer. It was night and day. The first time he wore it, he got 3 corrections in the span of about 20 minutes. The second wear, maybe 1 or 2. After about a week of wear (in the car almost every day), he is getting 1 or no corrections. He’s not just stopped barking, he is actually calmer. No more pacing, no lunging. He does still whine a bit but that does not set it off. I am hopeful that with continued training and time in the car, he may not even need to wear it eventually or maybe at least not have it turned on. I think it is important to mention that mine was not a case of anxiety in the car, it was excitement. He wasn’t a dog that hated to get in the car or was fearful, he was a dog that couldn’t wait to get in the car. He is not a reactive dog. I am not sure this would be the right tool for excessive barking due to anxiety/car anxiety - recommend consulting a professional if that is the case. Also consider that good training will help you get the most out of this device. Dog should sit/be calm before entering the car, reward when calm/quiet, start with short drives and build up endurance, etc. I am truly grateful for this product because now I don’t hesitate for a second about bringing my dog places, so he can accompany me and enjoy many adventures throughout his life!

Stopped constant barking almost immediately
I didn't think this would work but I had tried everything else but IT DID!!! Almost after the first quick spray by baby realized something was different and one or two times more and he figured out that if he didn't bark, it didn't spray. Although he has figured out that if he just does a low growl it won't spray, but those are few and far between - plus I do like to know that he is on the alert for something different in the yard, etc. It was well worth the month.

Too sensitive - punishes even low sounds, such as whimpering, which is negative training
We reluctantly purchased this bark collar after two months of unsuccessful positive reinforcement training (such as giving her a treat or attention when she stopped barking for a few minutes), and numerous talks with neighbors that could hear the incessant barking when our doors and windows are closed. Most were compassionate and empathized with how loud it must be in our house when they could hear it two houses down! But this seems unsustainable in the long term. We are strongly against shock collars, and even the vibration collars are worrisome due to many models having prongs. We chose this model because the unscented spray seems relatively benign. Pros: - Very large nylon strap for the collar, which should fit a wide range of dogs (my dog is a 40lbs hound, and there was much extra strapping that I needed to trim it) - Decent packaging and it works out-of-the-box due to two sample cartridges - Charges relatively quickly - Fairly straightforward set up - Consistent bark detection. After a few initial uses, it seems to be consistent in detecting and spraying for barks - Effective. I have a hound dog that likes to bark when she wants out of her kennel (such as when she sees us eating in the other room). She can bark continuously for tens of minutes or even an hour, which wasn’t allowing adequate opportunities for positive behavior reinforcement. With the collar, after one spray she stops barking and doesn’t start again, even when the collar is off. In this regard, it works! Cons (which outweigh the pros, in my opinion): - The unit I have is too sensitive - I expected this to be triggered by any level of hound dog bark, even low woofing. It appears to do that. But it also sprays for even low single whimpers. As with many dogs, she whimpers for several reasons, including when scared and urgently needing to go outside. Spraying a dog for being scared seems cruel and reinforces the need to be scared. Spraying a dog for being uncomfortable also seems cruel and risks an accident while punishing good behavior. For this reason, I would never trust this collar on her when not supervised, and I consider this a dealbreaker. - It is not supposed to be worn for NO more than 12 hours in any 24 hour period. This is to avoid the vibration sensor on the back from irritating the dog’s skin. I’m guessing this is a pretty big limitation for many users, and my initial plan was to have her always wear it but turn it on/off selectively. This isn’t an option with this collar... Bottom line: I’d give this a good rating if it could be worn continuously and didn’t respond to quiet noises.

Works great!! But refills run out super fast!
This is the only thing that stopped my German Shepherd 1 year old from barking at everything! She is young and boisterous and barks at people and dogs from the back yard or on a walk. She ignores vibrating or shock collars totally, so was so relieved to find this. HOWEVER, the spray ran out and I didn't realize it. I replaced the spray but then the COLLAR STOPPED WORKING within about 1 month of having it. She started barking again like crazy and I couldn't figure out what was wrong because the collar tested fine. Just didn't work when she was barking (or on my other dog, or on me when I test "woofed" on it). The company was great and replaced it quickly, but i was a week without the collar, and she's as bad as ever. With the new collar, she will go through almost a whole cartridge before she stops barking (it's definitely working tho). You have to keep an eye on it and when it runs out replace IMMEDIATELY. If she gets even 1 outside visit without it, she'll figure it out now. Also the cartridges cost a lot and have only like 30 or 40 sprays. 3 for $10 and I'm going through all three in one week. I'm trying to be consistent and see if I can get the original great response back. I hope so, because the best thing about it was if she couldn't bark, she didn't get so excited at all - she stopped raising her hackles and generally was happier, and less concerned about other dogs. Also, it did not spray her when she wasn't barking, like some collars do. Not even for low woofs. I like that because I think it's important for them to be able to express themselves acceptably. I recommend it!

It works, it really really works. I now enjoy walking my new dog with my other dog again!
I adopted a 4 year old dog and he came to me with leash reactivity. I only adopt shelter dogs so I'm used to working with behaviors but I just couldn't stop him from freaking out (barking, growling, lunching) while walking and in the house when he hears a noise. . He's better off leash but still chases people, bikes and dogs. He also barks when my airbnb guests walk around upstairs. We start classes next week but I was going crazy and dreading my daily walks. (I also have another rescue who was not happy with this.) Enter a friend who recommended this product and brands. I was tempted to buy a cheaper product but felt that it works for my friend's dog after spending $$$ on training that I should give the product a chance. She even said that after a while she no longer has to even turn it one just put the collar on the dog. The one mistake I made was my first use, I forgot to turn the actual devise on. DUH. It is worth every penny. As I write this, my Airbnb guests just left. Not even a peep, Still sitting at my legs quietly. I will come back in a month or so to update.

Good idea but bad execution
Got this for my 45lb dog who barks way too much whenever people are coming and going. Vibration collars don't bother him and the ultrasonic device we tried seemed to make him and my other dog anxious, so we decided to give this spray collar a try. It's ok, and we'll stick with it for now, but it's definitely not perfect. We've been using it for about a month and here are my thoughts so far: -It's bulky and would probably be too big and heavy for a small dog under 25lbs or so. The part that sprays also always ends up rotating to the side instead of under his chin. -It's like 75% accurate at detecting and spraying when he barks. Sometimes it will spray when he yawns or shakes his head, and sometimes he'll bark and it won't spray. I'm not sure if this is because it rotates to the side or if the collar just isn't super accurate to begin with. So far this hasn't been a huge issue because it's accurate enough, but it definitely could be better. -The cartridges are TINY and have to be replaced often. The first couple days, we went through a cartridge every day or so. It's expensive, and it's also annoying when they run out and we wake up to him barking in the middle of the night. My dog's barking has decreased somewhat, so we're using fewer sprays than we were in the beginning, but still going through about 2 cartridges a week. Overall I'm not wildly impressed but I'm going to give it another month or two. My dog still barks but not as much, even when he's not wearing the collar, so it has helped a little bit.

Works great! Barking has stopped!
My vocal dog Luna was getting on some neighbors’ nerves with her nervous barking that would be triggered by people walking by, cars driving by, an annoying pigeon that would come by and sit in a nearby tree seemingly just to annoy the dogs... After several months of feeling like an awful neighbor, I met a fellow dog owner who told me about a citronella bark collar that she had used for her barking dog. My dog is already on the anxious side, so the idea of a low-stress way to teach her to stop barking sounded great (unlike shock collars, which I think would make her too anxious). I kept researching the different collars on Amazon, and noticed that some collars from competitors had higher reviews and a lower price, but I got a little suspicious that these collars all seemed to come from companies with strange names and nearly all the reviews were from the last few months. So instead I decided to go with the company that petsmart sells, but found the amazon price to be about half (it was $20 off regular price when I got it). I was worried about how it would work and decided to use the unscented cartridge first (it comes with one unscented and one citronella cartridge)... I tried it on myself first (yes, I put it up against my neck and barked), and the spray was definitely startling, but not exactly scary. Day 1, barking still happening with pup surprised at spray. Day 2, random short barks. Day 3 until now (a week later) maybe five barks in total as long as the collar is on. She definitely knows that the collar causes the spray, so she is not as quiet without the collar on, but now when we put her in the dog run, she is completely quiet the whole time. It’s magic! I ended up purchasing a pack of the unscented cartridges as backup after she went through the first two cartridges quickly because of her continued barking the first day, but with the way things are progressing, I doubt I will need to order more for quite a while.

IT WORKS - GIVE IT A LITTLE TIME
I adopted the most wonderful little chihuahua mix about seven months ago. Like most chihuahua's, he is extremely loving, loyal... and fiercely protective. From the very beginning, I noticed his leash aggression but only when we was with me. He would do so well with other dogs when he was at daycare but the minute we walked outside, he would bark non-stop at other dogs. I absolutely adore him, but it was a definite challenge taking him out... our entire routine and lifestyle revolved around his walks, and the best times to take him out. I would wake up at 5:30am for his first walk to avoid running into other dogs, and even started driving to different neighbourhoods where there were less dogs in the evening. I was prepared to do it just so we could have a peaceful and enjoyable walk together but it wasn't easy. I even invested in a trainer who taught me how to "manage" his barking, but after six months I had to try something new. I started researching bark collars, and was determined to use only the most humane I could find. While the PetSafe Spray Bark Dog Collar had mixed reviews, I decided to give it a try but was immediately disappointed... so many people wrote that within the first hour or the first walk their dog made the association between their barking and the spray. This was not the case with us, but instead my little boy would bark right through it the first few times. Long story short, it took about a full week for him to realise what was happening and it has completely changed our lives. I am able to take him out at any time of day and not worry about the consequences of us running into other dogs. It has completely saved our walks and our lifestyle! **UPDATE** After about 2 months of using this, my little one has decided there are times when he simply doesn't mind the citronella that much, and will bark through the spray. Needless to say I am no longer using it. While the collar itself works fine, it unfortunately isn't for every dog. Some - like mine - are more determined barkers than others.
