GOOD FILTER MEDIA FOR AQUARIUMS / POND
I used this as a filter media, not a BBQ product so my review reflects that. Very good as a filter media for aquariums or in a shower filter for koi ponds and certainly compares to Bakki house media.Unlike a media like 'Biohome' the structure does not lend itself to anaerobic bacteria support but it is excellent for aerobic bacteria (to convert ammonia to nitrite, nitrite to nitrate) If lots is used and flow rate is reduced then an anaerobic bacteria support is possible so I rate these rocks highly as a DIY filter media and they will last for many years unlike the very expensive ceramic tubes sold by koi outlets which are extremely brittle and wear very quickly.See attached video clip of a DIY shower filter I made for a recent upload on my Youtube channel which showed how to make a shower filter for your pond.

Check bag for stones and be careful if using in BBQ
Bought for replacing gas BBQ coals. Some of the bag contains stone and is not all lava rocks. I presume this is a cost saving measure on the manufacturers part. When used and the BBQ was up to temperature one of the stones exploded and shards of stone were fired into the air and in the food. Please buy with caution if using on a BBQ and check thoroughly for rogue non lava rocks. I think that if you buy a bag of lava rock then you expect just that and not the addition of cheaper stone to make up weight. Potentially dangerous.

Not as good as original
The product came well packaged but when I opened it up the size of the pieces were smaller than I expected. There was enough to cover my gas bbq but once lit and heated up there were several explosions inside the cover as some rock disintegrated.

DANGEROUS ITEM!
Dangerous item, when these get hot as they inevitably do (on a BBQ !) then they start to pop and shoot little pieces of rock at the person who is trying to cook, if i could i would return but i bought and then didn't use until recently.....DANGEROUS ITEM!

A bag of gravel, anyone?
I bought three bags of these 'rocks' and they are little more than gravel. Most of them are too small to sit on the rack in the bbq and so fall through. It took ages to try and arrange them so that there was enough coverage without them falling through. Compared to the size of the rocks I was replacing, these were a waste of money.

Carnovores
I bought these to use in my pitcher plant raised bed. I lined the base with them as they hold water well and can keep air flow due to the holes in them.Ive also used them in the past in my fish set ups
