If you buy these you won't regret it
I ordered this box set for my little boy(yes it's not just for girls) for Christmas. We had been reading my books, which I recieved for Christmas back when I was eight. He loved the stories. He is very imaginative and spent weeks hunting panthers, just like Pa. His only complaint about the books was that the pictures were not in color. Also, because the my books were old and well used (read starting to fall apart) and they were a gift from my grandmother, I wouldn't let him read them without me. He really wanted his own set to read on his own. I was only going to get the first two books(Little House in the Big Woods, and Little House on the Prarie) for him. They have larger print and more pictures, the others are a little above his reading level with smaller print, more pages and fewer pictures. But when I found this set with color pictures I knew I had to get it. These books were the only thing he asked for at Christmas. After he opened them, we didn't see him the rest of the day, he was off with his books. The pictures are beautiful and he loves the color. Also the pages are much higher quality. A slick, thicker paper. More like what you would find in a quality hardback picture book than a child's chapter book. These books, especially the first two are great to read out loud to younger readers. My son is in 1st grade, but even his little sister who is 4 enjoys listening to these stories and they hold her attention. Also for a beginning reader these books are great. They are challenging but not to complex for kids to sound out. I would say the first two are about a 2nd - 3rd grade level and the others a 3rd-5th grade. If you buy these you won't reget it.

Beautiful
These are beautiful, even better than I thought they’d be, they aren’t lightweight flimsy paperbacks, they’re substantial and very pretty illustrations! Love them

PRARIE LIFE
I remember reading these when I was 8 or 9. Our school didn't have a library. Instead, a big bus packed with books would come to the school every two weeks.I loved all the descriptions and details about all the different places she and her family lived. I also related to Laura's personality.I look forward to reading The Long Winter and These Happy Golden Years. I'm 66 years old now and am enjoying reading these just as much as I did as a little girl!

A Timeless Story for mom, dad, and the kids.
I read this series to my children and am beyond thrilled that my daughter is reading it to her boys: ages 3 and 5. They love it. The story is instructive, interesting and the life of a pioneer family is very compelling in this heavy tech age. My grand boys love to work and they love to read about danger and adventure and hard, enjoyable labor. This classic will delight every age - kids, parents and grandparents. It is an autobiographical story that encourages, stimulates the imagination and brings you close to what life on the solitary prairie was like. The illustrations are wonderful and sweet. A winner!!!

Bringing back my childhood
I got these books because I had a collection my aunt and uncle got me many moons ago. My best friend and I have been looking to buy them for ages. Now that she has her first grandson and I have a great nephew I got them for us to share with him once he's older—good wholesome books.I look forward to reading them.

Love!!
Only read the 1st book so far with my kid (4 yo). She loves listening to the stories of Laura Ingles Wilder. I frequently hear her playing out scenes from the book with her doll house people.

Every little girl needs these, and grandmothers need no excuse to re-read
This series is based on real life experiences of a family trying to find a place to settle "Out West". Her culture dictates her viewpoint, but as a way to understand the pioneering settlers in America in the 1800's, this is brilliant. Written from (at first) a little girl's standpoint, the series takes us up to her own marriage and children, and finally is completed by her daughter, in the last of the series (but not in this collection). This collection takes us up to when the family settles for a few years, and Laura is a young teenager and first meets the boy she will later marry. Fascinating history, and thoroughly enjoyable stories
