This "Best" Doesn't Dissapoint...
If you enjoy the music of UB40 then this is the album to get. The US releases of Vol 1&2 don't cover all the songs on this gem and leave out one of the best (IMO) "Don't Break My Heart". You can check the track listings on the other 2 CD's but why carry two CD's when you get all the songs on one for roughly the same price?UB40 has always been "pop" like with "Red Red Wine", "Please Don't Cry", "Cherry Oh Baby", "Rat In Mi Kitchen", but that's their style. If you're looking for "hardcore" reggae stlye you'll need to look at other artist like Gregory Issacs, Yellow Man, Marley...etc. But if you enjoy UB40, I can't recommend this purchase more... kick back and relax with this one :)

Best of UB40 Vol 1import version is good but
Some very catchy songs here. But I mainly bought this album for the big American hits such as 'Red Red Wine' and 'Please Don't Make Me Cry' not bad at all. However this version on this canadian import of Best of UB40 1 has the short version of Red Red Wine. It also has 'Many Rivers To Cross' as well as 'Cherry Oh Baby' both of which are NOT available on the American release of Best of UB40 vol 1. That's why I got it. However the UB40 album 'Labour Of Love' (pt 1) is still the best anywhere!

Don't Let This Collection Pass You By
There were fourteen tracks on the original LP; this CD has eighteen. All the tracks were released between 1980 and 1987 and are arranged in chronological order. Not every hit during this period is contained in this collection: for example, there is one hit from the `Geffrey Morgan' album and none at all from `UB44'. Nevertheless, this CD gives a good guide to how good the band could be.Ironically, I don't really like reggae, but what made UB40 different was that they possessed a canny pop sensibility allied to their love of the genre. Combined, this saw many of their singles consistently reaching high into the charts. Much of their success is also down to good production by others; it is notable that they did not achieve great chart success when they produced themselves.I was aged 15-22 during the period covered here, so UB40 were part of my youthful experience of pop music during Thatcher's Britain. But by 1990 my musical tastes had progressed into different areas and pop music was left behind. Regardless, it was great to hear most of these tracks again, including all eight minutes of `Don't Let It Pass You By'.

Classic UB40
I asked for this for Christmas and was not disappointed.I have been a fan of UB40 for many years now and inspite of being of mature years I never tire of their music. All the old favourites are there so there is not much to comment on.This is also an excellent CD for people not familiar with UB40 to find out the history of their music.I will be playing it for many years.
