Does this cover really help heat the pool?

This is how I use it. During the sunny hours or when I'm in the pool, I take it off. Remember it's like insulation. Take it off in sun and let the solar energy heat the water. After the sun is gone, cover the pool with this to keep most of your heat gains. Diminishing returns of course, but it works for me.

Could this be used as a pool pad as well?

This cover is made for 12' pools but the actual cover dimensions are approximately 10'. The cover has air filled pockets or bubbles that may deflate with constant pressure since it is designed to rest on top of the water. Hope this helps!

Can i run the pump with the cover on?

The pump can still be run with the cover.

Why does this cover have holes in it? Is this a defect or is it supposed to be like this?

the holes allow any water on top to go back into the pool instead of having it splash all over as you remove the cover.
