From Alan Ball, creator/EP of True Blood, this exciting new Cinemax action drama charts the twists and turns that follow Lucas Hood (Antony Starr), an ex-convict who improbably becomes sheriff of a rural, Amish-area town while searching for a woman he last saw 15 years ago, when he gave himself up to police to let her escape after a jewel heist. Living in Banshee under an assumed name, Carrie Hopewell (Ivana Milicevic) is now married to the local DA, has two children (one of whom may be Lucas’), and is trying desperately to keep a low profile – until Lucas arrives to shake up her world and rekindle old passions. Complicating matters is the fact that Banshee is riddled by corruption, with an Amish overlord, Kai Proctor (Ulrich Thomsen), brutally building a local empire of drugs, gambling and graft. With the help of a boxer-turned-barkeeper named Sugar Bates (Frankie Faison), Lucas is able to stay on even footing with Kai and his thugs, and even manages to bring a measure of tough justice to Banshee. But eventually, Lucas’ appetite for pulling heists pulls him and Carrie into a dangerous cauldron of duplicity, exacerbated when Mr. Rabbit (Ben Cross), the NY mobster they once ripped off, closes in with vengeance on his mind. Review: I would recommend the series for any, (adults) that appreciate good writing, solid action, engaging plotlines, superior acting - I came into this show with fairly low expectations. But I figured, "What the heck." I will start off by saying that the show appeared on my recommended list as a result of the many Showtime subscription shows that I had watched and, not paying attention to the fact that it was a Cinemax (not Showtime) show, I assumed that I had the paid ability to watch all four seasons. Nope. Showtime (through desertcart) subscription does not cover this Cinemax series. And now I am hooked. So I will stew and complain and commit to not paying "the man" more of my hard earned cash for a TV series that I should have already had access to because I paid for Prime and I paid additional monthly fees to subscribe to Showtime on desertcart and its unfair that I should pay more and ... And then after a week I'll purchase season three and season four, because the show is just that good. So I've established that I enjoy watching the how. For many, many reasons, but let me establish one particularly pertinent reason for those people who have a certain predilection and only read the first few paragraphs of a review. There is nudity. Good nudity. Attractive young women frequently displaying their naked bodies. In the pervert vernacular, T & A, and a few instances of B. This is a Cinemax (not Showtime / Grrrr!) show and it keeps up the old Skinemax tradition. I happen to be a fan of attractive female nudity so I can't comment, in an unbiased fashion, on whether the nudity is gratuitous. I lean towards no (but it probably is). Anyway. There's that for those who want to know. Which is also to say that the writing is brilliant. The dialogue sparkling. The acting stupendous. And at that last statement, I suspect that TV critics will bristle. But hear me out. Refer to the previous paragraph. Frequent attractive young women displaying (occasionally) full frontal nudity. And yet as opposed to being bubble-headed pop tarts, these actresses have chops. Emoting, showing range, physically possessing their characters (Strasberg). In a word - acting. So rarely do "serious" actresses "do nudity", that when you encounter actresses that see the full human range of experience, including those moments when a character is unclothed, as material for inclusion in a dramatic setting, it is striking. The actresses and actors are all extremely talented. The writing is brisk. The action sequences engaging. Too many fistfights for my liking. They are too frequent, several an episode, and all so extraordinarily unrealistic. I mean. C'mon now. You get hit that many times with a lead pipe and you would be dead. You get hit that many times with a lead pipe EVERY EPISODE and your entire bloodline would be dead. The writing and the drama (and the nudity) keep you engaged. Like I said I will, eventually, purchase the next two seasons. So this is a big thumbs up. I would recommend the series for any, (adults) that appreciate good writing, solid action, engaging plotlines, superior acting ... and attractive female nudity. Review: Crazy (in a good way) - I tuned into "Banshee," not sure what to expect. I had really only seen a few commercials for it here and there. What I found was a TV show with an intriguing premise, solid acting, and some of the most brilliantly choreographed fight scenes I've ever witnessed. Make no mistake, if you don't like violence (or sex), you won't like this show. The basic premise (an ex-con assumes the identity of a freshly-dead sheriff) sounds on the surface a bit absurd and tough to expand on. "Banshee" takes that premise and runs with it, escorting you to a world that's fresh, exciting, and brutal. It's not just a small town, it's a small town in Amish country with a "crime lord" (but not the kind you're used to) and an illegal drug ring, among other things. "Banshee" never bores, never stalls, and never falters. The characters are unforgettable and unique. One of the highlights of the series is the female lead (Carrie Hopewell, played by Ivana Milicevic), who is NOT your stereotypical weak-willed woman in danger. Even in a scene where she should be considered a "damsel in distress" and is presumably rescued by an officer of the law, we see glimpses of the resourceful & powerful woman she really is. In a later episode, she engages in a brutal fight that - including other scenes cut in to break the tension - spans nearly 2/3 of the episode. I mentioned it before, but I can't emphasize it enough: the fight choreography in this series is incredible. It's taken to a level that should come across as fake and over-the-top, but it never does. Perhaps that's due in part to the actors' dedication to the scenes. You see no restraint, fear, or apprehension. Even as the season ends on a fevered pitch, you never get the feeling that the show is running out of steam, and there is certainly no doubt that our characters' stories could carry through into a second season with ease. SUMMARY: If you love engaging stories, memorable characters, stunning fight sequences, and a unique setting, "Banshee" is right up your alley!

Gratuitous, Over the Top, Sexy, Funny, Violent.....Best Show Ever!
Gratuitous violence, sex, nudity, blood, humor and implausible premises make Banshee the absolute BEST series of its kind you have ever watched by a landslide! Banshee is also the most fun you have ever had watching television. This show is SO incredible its hard to explain it in words, but I will try. In a nutshell, the main character gets locked up in prison for 15 years for stealing diamonds. After 15 years, he gets out and becomes the Sheriff of the town. Plausible premise? No, but from the get go, it's a whole lot of fun. There's much more to it than that but I don't want to spoil it, Just know that for four seasons, you gets tons of the aformentioned blood, violence, sex, nudity, etc to last a lifetime and it is incredible to watch. Aside from the almost non-stop action from the very first scene, the character development and the group dynamic of the main characters is so fun and mesmerizing to watch. The entire series leaves you on the edge of your seat and makes it difficult to stop at any one episode. In summary, words do not do justice for this show. You just have to watch it as there is so much that goes on. My only complaint, if you want to call it that, is the fourth season. Don't get me wrong, it was till a great final season, but it just doesn't stand up to the firs three seasons which were just over the top fun! But the final episode itself was fantastic and ended the way it should be ended and the writers are to be applauded for masterful writing. Oh, and Matt Servitto is an absolute scene stealer. He is amazing in the role of Deputy Brock Lotus. Love this guy. Enjoy!

Traurig! Absolut empfehlenswert! Alle Staffeln dieser Serie! Einfach Top! Vorallem das Intro und der Soundtrack! Schön düster! Sehr geil!

HBO has a great reputation for quality TV, this series helps show why. For the gangster-police genre this is very rich thematically. It weaves multiple strands together very credibly. NY Russian mafia, mid-west crime lords, drugs, diamonds, Indian reservations, 'Amish farmers, small town life, cowboy sheriff, trailer trash, raves, teen coming of age, prize fights, casinos, ex-cons, old vengeance, old love, many complex families of all sorts, mistaken identity, assumed identity, forgery, buried bodies in the woods at night, pick pockets, politics.... it even has a moment for police paperwork (the irony!) And that's just the first 3 episodes. It is hard to see any formula or idea that the writer allows to slip past unexploited. It uses each fully, satisfyingly and cleverly. There is real, understated wit everywhere. The characters, sympathetic or not, all engage you, all are real and human and fully fleshed out. The dialogue and behaviour is 18. The menace is palpable and there's plenty of graphic violence, drugs and sex , though lots is effectively left to the imagination too. But it is done with purpose, and so fits with alot less jarring than mindless or gratuitous graphic scenes trigger. And our main character does not live without his demons and PTSD. If not perfectly credible everywhere is certainly hard to beat any many much higher p[rofile series could learn a lot from this. This was a french box, all cover text in french but plays films and bonus material in English (5.1) as default but offers French (5.1), German (5.1), Polish (2.0) and subtitles in all those plus Dutch and Portuguese too. Bonus material is not subtitled, includes quite alot: NY-bus-crash behind the scenes, Banshee origins, Town of secrets, cut scenes, season 1 and 2 trailers, episode 7 and 8 trailers, audio commentary. 4x DVD in a slip case and standard size box. 10 episodes. RECOMMENDED - Oh yes!

The best show that you never heard of if you like action, and sex. There is a cross-dresser in the show so if this is an issue for you be forewarned though his character (Job) is awesome and all he does is just dress in well dressed clothes for the most part...he (Job) does not engage in any sexual/physical/relationships if you have issue with that...

Extraordinaria serie. Fantástica. Te atrapa de principio a fin. Todos los personajes tienen matices interesantes. Recomiendo esta serie a todo el que busque algo diferente.
