These are plastic boots, not military boots.
Everyone is going on and on about how comfortable these shoes are. Why? It's because they're too sappy to admit that they made a bad purchase and admit they got taken in. (It's either that or Altama paid them off or they paid to remove negative reviews. I wouldn't be surprised if this review got rejected if that's the case.)First, this listing claims they are all about the US military and so on and so forth. Where are they made? Philippines. Why? It's because the Philippines have cheap labor and materials. They're ripping people off with cheap plastic-ish tops to the boots while showing appealing pictures that seem to be that of a soft suede. Their redeeming quality is that the soles appear to be real leather as well as thick rubber. All in all, Altama probably paid about $20 in material as part of their bulk manufacturing, and $5 - $10 in labor in the Philippines. So, they make a whopping $110+ per sale! Here's the kicker. (No pun intended.) If they paid an extra $5 in material to make the tops a nice SOFT suede, then they'd be pretty comfy. As it stands, they're crunchy, hurt the tops of my feet, and if I don't pull my socks up really high then they scratch my legs. Before someone tries to complain about how much they need plastic because it's waterproof or some such nonsense: so is suede. (Real suede is just dead skin like leather is. It's just treated differently.)There's no way I'll wear these hiking for my two week hiking trip... I'll just wear tennis shoes like always.

Great construction, I CAN'T WEAR THEM :-(
Being prior military and having worn one single pair of these the full four years of my service, I was very eager to get another pair. Just like the ones I wore in the service, these are built with what seems like very good quality material. Now for the bad news (for me anyway). I wore them once and after about 2 hours, was in so much pain I found myself incapacitated due to the ginormous gash my new boots were digging into my heel. I know and expect to have a break-in period with these or any footwear. This was not that! Where the upper back of the heel meets with the upper of the back has a ledge of thick leather protruding into the inside of the boot. Sadly, there is no amount of break-in time to correct this situation. Can't stress enough that I have no issue with the quality of materials. I have slim ankles anyway, something I've grown accustom to, but that has nothing to do with the ledge caused by the material inside the boot.I'm willing to try a different pair, hopefully they'll be better for me.

Quality -unfortunately not!
UPDATE 2020 Aug:After using them about 1-2 hours almost daily since end of March they have now been a hole from the inside to the outside leather in the heel (not hole, see picture). This rub against my heel and I can't use them any more. Apart from the crack between the sole and the boot in my first report it seems it is cuts all around like they cut wrong. This boots should have been terminated and not even put together -how they cold miss this when they do the boots and also the quality check is beyond me. If these were used in military operations I doubt they will hold up any longer than a month! This is the worst boots I ever had and I have had a few during my years both in military and civilian life.Use these when I walking my dog here in Thailand. Walking on fields and on roads. Nothing special. Bought these since I needed a pair of boots that is made for hot climate.Ordered one size bigger than normal, I have 43 but ordered 44 wide. The boots is a little too big but works anyway. So if you are size 43 order size 43 since they seems to fit correctly. It is just lately I walk and use them like 1 time a day. Before that like 2 times a week. They are quite comfortable actually. I like there is no padding/isolation on the shaft of the boot.Unfortunately when I cleaned them today I saw there is a big crack between the sole and the leather! Only after so little use and they supposed to be made for military, well I might got a Monday example...I have been in the Swedish military and used LOWA boots which are to hot here but really good otherwise. Also in my work I have been using boots from Seivi, Arbesko. So I know how to take care boots etc.I will continue to use them since I need shoes for hot climate. I will not buy another boot from Altama again!I'm looking at others from i.e 511, Belleville, I see what happens. Don't want to pay over 120 for some since I only use them to walking my dog etc. Still expecting them to hold up though. I never had a pair of boots/shoes that broke after 2 month of normal walking. Not recommended.

Way too big!
3 stars because quality appears to be very good, but not 5 starts because sizing is way off. I did not wear these boots other than to try them on. At first glance they appeared too large. I checked the size on the boots and they were as ordered, but about 2 inches too long. If I were dressing as a clown, they would be perfect. I will return for another size, but am not looking forward to the long wait for the item to ship.

Tough boots for work or hiking.
Well made boots- I had a pair of US made Altama boots from the 90’s and the quality seems the same. Boot is a fairly wide fit due to construction and lack of insole with arch support. You can add whatever insole that works to get a custom fit. Have hiked in them and they’re great for shedding mud. If you don’t need the venting holes on the side of the boot, and need more water resistance, just put duct tape over the vents on inside of boots. Very comfortable boots right out of the box. Only thing was they had a bit of a musty smell.

Fits 0.5-1 size smaller than expected
If you are looking for jungle boots, look no further. These are the classical British and US military designated jungle boots with Panama soles of top notch quality. Altama boots are approximately 0.5-1 size smaller than expected, as discussed in other reviews. I had the exact same experience. The medium width is quite narrow and great for slim feet. I was a bit surprised they are made in Phillipines and not in USA, but this may hopefully change in the future when multinationals are further pressed to bring their manufacturing home.
