This famous plant bears solitary, nodding, fragrant white flowers, the inner segments attractively marked with green at the tip, above compact clumps of narrow grey-green leaves. For many gardeners snowdrops herald the end of winter. They are extraordinarily hardy and grow in most soils, but make best plants in heavier moist soils. They are best transplanted while growing (in the green), dry bulbs often taking a season to settle down before flowering.
