Ok budget minded buyer...
So you have a PSX/PS2 laying around from your childhood, maybe ya bought one off ebay to re-live your childhood. you hook it to your flat panel, and the thing looks like crap... so you go looking for a modern solution and you find that "HDMI modding" a console is tricky and very expensive, and scalers are just as bad. so you go looking on amazon and you find a TON of cables that claim they do the job, ya buy one and somehow its worse. well budget minded buyer, this is the cable you should have gone with from the start. Its not the best / cleanest / whatever way to get it done, but it works reasonably well, and you can at least get a clear picture out of it. Is it going to beat or match a proper full digital HDMI mod? nope, but if you just want to casually pick up a playstation and re-live a game or 2 it gets the job done just fine. there are better more expensive options out there, but if you are the sort to actually buy that stuff... you wouldnt be reading this review. now speaking of scalers, I have personally tested this thing with a Morph 4k, and it was passable, its not going to blow everyone away with its awesome picture, but youll at least be able to read the in game text clearly, and it doesnt ghost crazy bad like the cheaper ones can. if you are here at the end of this rant, go on buy one... it will do the job just fine

excellent for ps2. Makes the ps2 able to play ps1 games on newer tvs. Amazing picture quality.
This worked EXCELLENT. I thoguht my ps2 lazer was bad because it would not play ps1 games tho it played ps2 games fine (or so i thought). I Tried everything, even got a ps1. Turns out the ps1 wouldnt play games either. Then i realized it was my TV all along was not accepting the 240p signal from the ps1 at all, and my ps2 seemed to not play ps1 games because the ps2 flips from 480i to 240p output when playing ps1 discs, SO my newer (2021) smart tv was not reckognizing the output! Used this chord, and PROBLEM SOLVED! PS2 now plays PS1 games on my newer tv perfectly fine! The QUALITY of the output is ACTUALLY stunning! It really is. I dont even remeber these games looking this good when i was a kid playing them on the old fat screen and plasma tvs they were built for! Both PS2 and PS1 games EASILY look 2-3x better, the higher RES PS2 games such as jak2/3, newer mx vs atv ect games that were made in higher resolutions- see the biggest improvement! But ALL look DRASTICALLY better. This is a VERY good hdmi chord for the ps2. have not tried on the ps1. sure its the same deal id assume. they are the same exact chord sockets/ wire pin layout. and the switch goes to 4/3.. so it should be great for the ps1 itself... amazing for the ps2, AMAZINGER for high res PS2 games.

Loses connection in reboot, but works great when it’s working
When it works, it works great. Almost everyone every time i use it i have to unplug the power and re connect it just so it can get the signal. Besides that it works great and looks good. I originally got a defective unit but returned it and got a replacement. I wonder if i got another faulty one.

Best budget upscaler by far
Great way to display PlayStation 2 content on modern displays with little to no lag, visual artifacts, or color issues. It even displays 240 P games effortlessly.

4:3 option, PS1 Awesomeness. Get it.
On PS1: Sharp, responsive, colors look great, audio is awesome. Just got done playing some SF Alpha III and couldn't tell any lag (I'm playing on a 1ms response time computer monitor though, not a tv. I highly recommend getting away from TVs for gaming). I was really surprised by how crispy my PS1 slim graphics look. Super tidy too. I also got one of those RCA to VGA converters to compare it to and that solution comes with a lot of snow in the blacks of the picture and the audio has a hum. It might be more responsive though, but without frame analyzation I can't tell a difference between this HDMI converter and converting to VGA. The picture on this thing is way better. it's unfortunate that this product doesn't have a PS1 and PS2 version separately because I feel like the PS2 users are dragging down the reviews but this is a great solution for PS1. Seems like good quality too. Update: My monitor will not go into sleep mode while hooked up to this, instead constantly displays "no signal detected" when the PS1 is turned off. Only unfortunate because my NES and SNES classic both allow the monitors to sleep when turned off and I was hoping for my whole arcade to be as user friendly as possible. Oh well, still a really nice product for the price.

Good for the first five hours
Change the settings in your PS2 to get rid of the green tint. I was able to play for 5 hours. I was happy. Tried again the next day and the cord did not work. There was power to the unit, but it would only work if I unplug it and plug it back in. A shame you have to do this every time you want to play. How long until it just stops working all together?

If you want better quality just buy component cable if your tv support it... Much better image quality

Easy to setup, just plug in the HDMI cable to the tv, plug in the display cable to the PS2, and plug in the USB power into a USB socket such as a power bar. Display is crisp and the colour is really good. Top notch piece of gear for a ridiculously affordable price. There’s a lot of similar cables on the market, but Hyperkin’s is likely the best. They’re quite reputable and I’ve had good results with previous pieces of their equipment. This has made me just as happy. I did have an issue with a new Sony 4K TV where the HDMI connection would drop every 15 minutes or so (screen goes black with no audio for 2-3 seconds) but this was not an issue with the cable. Turned out it was also rarely doing it with other HDMI inputs like my Nintendo Switch. It was resolved after doing a TV update, so if you’re running into any issues like this when using this cable, it’s pretty much guaranteed to not be the cable’s fault. Try doing a hardware update for your TV which will likely resolve it. I’ve previously tried another brand of a cheap AV2HDMI component to HDMI cable for my PS2 and had very poor results with it (blurry image). Hyperkin’s product is top of the line as far as what’s on the market for inexpensive HDMI cables for PS2 if you want to avoid having to invest in a really expensive, high end upscaler.
