The construction is very good -- except that the steeple is wobbly and needs to be glued to stay in place firmly. Really like the stone enhancements on the bottom.

This is a beautifully detailed birdhouse. The manufactures instructions suggest clear coating with a marine grade sealer. I did this. Unfortunately I only did it the first year. Since then the finish has started to peal and the steeple has fallen off. I love the look but the owner of this birdhouse should expect to perform annual maintenance.

First of all, the pole was terrible trying to put together. Cheap Chinese junk. There's a bolt that screws into the poles to keep the 3 pieces together, but those bolts are held together by cantilevered screws, a few of which fell out when I was merely twisting the pole onto the other pole! I had to replace those. The entire thing felt a bit shaky when I placed it outside and pushed it into the lawn. Then, within weeks (summer), the white covers of the windows fell off and were littering the ground. See photo. The paint was already coming off! But from a distance it looked nice. But after one winter (Idaho 27 degrees lowest), I noticed the thing was leaning. Sure enough, the pole was about to give out. The wood is splitting, the paint chipping, the covers to the shutters falling off, and there wasn't any sign a bird even tried to nest in here. So here are photos showing you what kind of cheap Chinese junk you will get, and what will happen to it if you place it outside. Buyer beware!

Purchased this in 2019 as I used to drive past the "real" star barn which was originally located between Harrisburg, PA and Middletown, PA. It has been rescued and rebuilt. When I received the birdhouse I notice it was not very good quality material, so I repainted the entire birdhouse and put a spray varnish on it. Well this spring I got it out to put out on the post and the base wood around the stone foundation has all split as well as most of the wood on the eves. The black paint has all pealed off the roof shingles and some of the white paint has also pealed off on the body. I have again painted the roof and this time put marine varnish on it but I am sure it will probably not be here for the 2021 season. It's too bad as I love the Star Barn but it was a very expensive waste of money. Don't waste your money on this birdhouse!
