Best book EVER
ok, so this book is so completely different than the other books. I am not saying I dont like it...I love it!! I am 11 years old and I purchased this book on my kindle on Dec 27 , 2017 And I have got to say.....This book is amazing! It talks about a girl named Catherine or Cat (the way she likes to call it) and her sister , Maya. Maya does have cystic fibrosis and sadly there is no cure. They moved to a place called Bahia Fe Luna (I speak spanish) to help her with her breathing. Although, They have many adventures and they meet a boy named Carlos. Cattherine thinks he is trying to scare them about ghosts. But later in the book, they find out that ghosts are real on the day of the dead. I don't exactly like the part , however where Catherine starts to scream at Carlos accusing him for having Maya's cystic fibrosis get worse because of the ghosts Calros showed them. I thought that part was a little bit too much of drama....but anyways the rest of the book is pleasent and very loving. My favorite part of the book is when Catherine meets thatt old lady at the halloween party who she thinks is her grandmother. This part shows love and kindness because Catherine gives juice and love to that old lady who Catherine doesnt even know. Even if that old lady is a ghost, Catherine got used to it and gave love to almost everyone in the book. Also this book is very simalar to Sisters because Catherine and Maya get along and Catherine tries to help Maya feel better. Since there is no cure for Maya 's cystic fibrosis .....she keeps thinking about dying. That part makes me feel sad for Maya. Until when a little kid ghost (Carlos 's uncle) talks with Maya about how it is like to be a ghost. The part that leaves kind of a cliffhanger is the part when the cat at the end of the book looks like he/she cooks the food. I really want to know who that cat is and what did it do. I think The cat is the grandmother.Overall...I definetely recommend this book to all readers of any age! Amazing book Raina Telemeiger!! :)

Beautiful
I didn't buy this for my kids, I just bought it for myself. I gulped this book down in one quick sitting, and it was a wonderful reading experience. The illustrations are beautiful and the story is warm and engaging. Great reading for kids and adults alike.

Great book. Daughter loved it.
I bought this book for my 8 year old daughter after hearing the author discuss it on NPR. I pre-ordered it not knowing much other than it was a child's graphic novel about Dia de Las Muertos. (I hope i got that right!) My daughter is a huge fan of the Far Out Fairy Tale series of graphic novels. When I received this in the mail, I was shocked at how large it was! It's the size of a small novel. My daughter isn't the biggest fan of reading, but this book got her reading before school, without being asked to. She finished it in 3 days! I am thankful I heard the author talking about this book, and I will be looking into more books like it.

Great potential but falls short
This book had the potential to be amazing like all of Rania Telgemeier's other books but it fell a little short. The story starts of very good and is very unique and captavating with a family moving from the Socal suburbs to a small seaside town called Bahia de la luna for their youngest daughter who has cf. Unfortunately thats when it starts to go downhill. While the main character Cat is very easy to empathize with, it feels like the storyline is very artificial. The book takes place over a span of 3 months, but unlike Telgemeier's other books this one falls way short. The book ends very abruptly and there is absolutely no resolution of any of the major themes in the story. I feel that if the book doubled its length and explored more themes about Maya's illness and what happens as her condition gets worse, it would undoubtedly make the story a lot better. Also, I wish there was more exploration about Cat's thoughts about moving and whether she grew to adjust to the different culture of the town. The concept of this book is very novel and the story that is there is amazing, but I feel like there was so much missed potential because the author made the book to short. Hopefully, there will be a sequel!

Raina's Best book yet!
Raina is back on top form with her latest offering, 'Ghosts', a wonderful warm and engaging tale about Sisterhood and illness. The illustrations are stunning as usual. I got into Raina's books Initially through my daughter, We love to read these together and this in my opinion is the best one yet. I loved her previous books but wasn't too keen on 'Drama', although my daughter loved it and she is the intended age group. This story is about a girl called Cat who is upset when she has to leave her hometown in Southern California and move up to 'Bahia de la Luna' a misty mysterious town in Northern California where the sun only shines 62 days a year. The move is for the benefit of her younger sister Maya who suffers from Cystic Fibrosis. Their parents believe the seaside air will be beneficial for her health. Despite her love for her sister, Cat being a young teenager resents being uprooted from her former life and is spooked by the new town and with good reason, there is a portal to the spirit world and the accommodating misty weather provides the perfect cover for the ghosts to hang around. It's not all doom and gloom though, this is a happy feel good book where we learn that ghosts don't have to be scary.

Gorgeous story - love this!
This is a lush story! Cat and her family move somewhere new to help her little sister’s health and when she gets there, all they talk about is ghosts. Cat is terrified, but with the help of the people around her she warms to the idea. Loved the colour and life in this! I really appreciated the talk and representation of Maya’s illness in this too.

Beautifully done!
This one hit me right in the heart, it hits so many different big hard topics that really need more voices. A realistic portrayal of cystic fibrosis and amazing look at dia dos muertos. Family and friends are important which is amazing.

Delightful graphic novel about sisters and sickness and spooks. If you're going to wrestle with mortality, it's nice to do it with such lovely images and in a work for all ages.
