Another vet book that's hard to put down
When Dr. Kristen Nelson was 5, she was invited to go duck hunting with her father. She established a duck hospital in the bow of the boat with blankets food & water, and tenderly dressed each duck's wounds wrapping a towel around it in a bid to save it.This love of animals and a desire to save them, as well as empathy for their owners, shows through in her book. I found myself following the story of each patient and owner with deep interest.I have read and enjoyed the "All Creatures" books by English vet James Herriot, and I suppose like others I tend to use them as a benchmark to compare other veterinary books (perhaps unfairly)."Coated In Fur: a Vet's Life" is well written and an enjoyable read in the James Herriot mould.Apparently Dr. Nelson is working on a second book: "Coated With Fur: A Blind Cat's Love", I hope it is published as a Kindle e-book.

An excellent story
A tale of a young vet learning what real world business is like. Well written, showing that life has ups and downs, and animals are more than pets..they're angels and devils..and love.

Great Vet
Full of stories of all kinds of animals and creatures plus people of all kinds. I never realized just how difficult it must be for a vet to not only work with so many animals but also with strong human personalities. Dr Nelson shows great caring and knowledge along with patience and persistence. Her writing style is stilted but her love of animals shines through making that a minor flaw.

Amazon verified puchase
At first I hesitated to purchase this book thinking it would be another pretty dry account about the authors life and their struggles to become a vet. However, this book is genuinely interesting and you really feel connected to the patients and their families. There are sad moments which are balanced by the successes and happy endings for those that seem to have no chance of survival. All in all for any one that loves animals and a good read by all means purchase this book. Hopefully there will be more to follow.

A very interesting read.
I didn't want the stories to end. I have met Kristen, and she is a wonderful person with many stories to tell as a veterinarian. My Dog Club members have read and/or ordered her book and we have had her speak in our village twice. Highly recommend this book to animal lovers.

Great read!
A lot of ups and down, laughs and tears. But despite the heartache of reading about the struggles of a vet as she has to treat some very sick animals, I couldn't put the book down, it was an amazing read and I wish there was more.

Bellissimo
Un bel libro da leggere per sapere cosa prova un veterinario facendo il suo lavoro. Sarà che forse è qualcosa che avrei voluto fare io.. Ma in questo libro mi son immedesimata molto.
