Great Product
I have used the plastic snaps in the past, but they were not sturdy enough for the current project. I like Dritz products so watched a video on using it and decided that it was just what I needed. The instructions in the package were much easier to use than watching the video. It works great and would recommend it for your heavier snap needs. Also making the purchase through Amazon is more cost effective than waiting for a sale at the local fabric store.

Good Fastener easy to use
I needed a fastener to put in some steel snaps through leather straps about 3mm thick. I read all the reviews and searched through the fasteners listed on Amazon. I only need this for occasional use and didn't want to spend a lot. So, I decided on this one . I must say it worked very well the first time putting in the plated steel snaps through leather. These snaps require a firm squeeze to properly crimp the post. This fasteners held up without any bending in the handles. Pretty good for a first use. Comes with instructions on the back of the card, that may be a little hard to follow unless you've done this before. I just had to make sure which half of the snap goes into the plastic platform, and when to use the red adapter. Like I said I'm a first time user, and I was able to figure it out. Product works, my snaps are all holding, and I'm happy with this fastener.

Did the job
These did the job. I ordered to repair one bad snap. I can see how some people say that they bent, although mine did not. I bet if you really got down on them that they might, but I was able to install the snap without using all my might. After reading the reviews I began to wonder if people were just trying to punch through the material without first making a hole. I would have to assume that skipping making a hole would cause you to need to apply excess force, which could in turn bend the pliers. Mine came with an instruction manual and there's even an instructional video in the image gallery of the listing. (I thought I read someone complain that it did not come with instructions.) The reason that I give 4 stars instead of 5 is because the handles aren't solid and are "folded," which with enough force, I could see being able to bend, unlike Channel Locks for instance, which do cost more. Also, the inserts for holding the snap cap in place while you depress, is plastic, as well as the removal tool and the inserts for the pliers to hold the other inserts. Plastic inserts and handle design keep this from being considered "Heavy Duty," in my opinion. Perhaps the description is as if to say that these are for metal snaps of a decent size, not for mini snaps or plastic snaps. I could see with repeated use on a regular basis that someone may want to invest more in a heavier duty design, but at this price, if you just needed to do a quick repair job, these should do the trick just fine. (wow that rhymed)

Great tool!
This has to be made by Germany, because the engineering is well designed, simple, and it works flawlessly every time! All you have to do is make sure the 'diamond' shaped pointer makes contact with the inside, head of the rivet, then squeeze the pliers, it's that simple! (the diamond shaped edges, split the rivet, as you squeeze, making for a clean, peened over, rivet). It may take you a few tries to get used to it, but it works great! Some reviewers didn't find that it works well. I think it is just because they didn't have the rivet centered, and it smashed the rivet post, before it engaged with snap. I was skeptical at first, when I got it, as I thought the plastic on one end probably is cheap and will break! NOT SO, all it does is keep the 'button' end lined up, when you squeeze the handles. I put in almost 200 snaps, in 40 gauge clear vinyl, with no problem. You can't go wrong for the price!

Simple, Awesome tool!
I loved how easy these were to use, this updated version has a punch that goes right thru fabric, worked perfectally and easy punched holes in the thick carhart overalls I was repairing. Next you have to remove the punch from the tool and replace it with the pieces that attach the top for the snap. removing the pieces with the flimsy plastic part it comes w wasnt working out so well so i just pried them off with a flathead screwdriver. Now theres 4 pieces to choose from 2 that make up the top and 2 on the bottom, and it took me a min to put the right ones together but once you figure that out its a breeze placing your snaps in place!

Worked great for me
Used this product for punching snaps into grossgrain ribbon for pacifier clips. I have never used a fastener before, but the instructions included were simple to follow & once I lined up the mark I drew on my ribbon with the point of the fastener "blade", the snap was positioned exactly as I wanted. I wish it came with more snap sets, since I wasted a couple just practicing, but other than that, it was worth the money & a product I will definitely use in the future. I had no problems squeezing the fastener to set the snaps, & I have average strength.

24P doesn't crimp the metal it cuts it
If you look at the snaps on your jeans or any other store bought item, the rivet part of the snap is rolled over to hold the snap to the fabric. This tool DOES NOT roll over or crimp the metal. It splits the metal open like a banana skin. When looking into the snap, you see a starfish pattern, not a smooth rolled over cylinder. If you are looking for professional results use a different tool. Even the cheap hammer and anvil tools for setting the snaps does a roll over crimp. Not this tool. You get ripped metal inside of the snap cap and socket. I bought this tool because the set with the hammer tools are not always symmetrical or centered. This can be a problem for the snap fully closing. The idea of 24P is good, for alignment of the tools, but they should have provided a roll over crimp die. I am very disappointed.

I've used this to put marine grade snaps on a couple boat covers. It does a good job of putting holes in marine canvas to feed the snap thru and the actual riveting of the snap works well. It may be the snaps I'm using but this tool takes a bit of grip strength to use, I found the rubber grips moved a bit under the strain. I noticed a bit of wear on the pointed bit that splits the snap rivet after my use. I've probably installed 400 to 500 snaps with it so I may be due for a new bit. Would be a good tool for spot repairs where you can't bring a bench mounted press. Overall a good inexpensive tool for my application.
