Digital Multimeter, TRMS 4000 Counts Volt Meter (Manual and Auto Ranging); Measures Voltage Tester, Current, Resistance, Continuity, Frequency; Tests Diodes, Temperature (Red)

I have many years under my belt as an electronics engineer diagnosing component level faults on pcb's and I am used to much more expensive DVM's (digital voltmeters) so I feel qualified to review this one. First off the price is really cheap so I wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised that is wasn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. It's quite light in the hand but feels well made, mostly hard plastic with a hard rubberised outer case which should negate some drops and bangs. The bale stand on the back is flimsy and will probly break if flexed the wrong way too much so just be gentle with it and it should be okay. The screw which holds the battery cover / stand on goes in to a brass insert and not just screwed in to plastic so thats nice. The screen is easy to read at different angles and has nice large numbers on and while isn't the quickest at updating its okay considering the price. The test leads are fine and work okay for general use I cant comment on battery life as I have not had it long, this review is first impressions. I have attached some pictures where I tested the accuracy of this DVM, the DMM Check Plus was Calibrated recently and I checked it with one of my Flukes just before testing the AstroAI DT132A and the Fluke read spot on for each of the tests. The tests performed were AC & DV volts , AC & DC mA and Resistance, you can see the results for yourself.

My eyesight is not as good as it used to be and I was getting frustrated trying to accurately read my old fashioned analogue needle type meter so it was time to get one with a big digital display. My needs were fairly basic…..checking the status of various rechargeable batteries I have for various things and also being able to do some basic continuity testing when fault finding (I just want a nice loud beep if all is good). This unit perfectly meets my needs. It feels perfectly good quality in my hand, and the display and controls are easy to use. When checking battery voltage, it’s first setting is autorange and the screen looks like it’s showing lots of spurious data before touching the probes, but just a few quick prods of the range button will shift the decimal point to something more useful and stable. It only takes 2 seconds to do this and I thought it was worth sharing as a tip. The thermocouple on my first unit was damaged but a quick email to AstroAI got a replacement sent to me. For this price point I was truly impressed how good their customer service was. I’ve used fancier brand meters (Fluke) and sure, this does not feel like it would be quite as tough as them if used hard day in day out, but the quality is certainly good enough for home use. Great value.

Works well. Handy tool for checking electrical connections. Everything and more your average diy’er could possibly need.

The AstroAI Digital Multimeter, TRMS 4000 Counts Volt Meter is a product I would seriously recommend. As multimeters go, this little unit has all the unique features of most of its “High End” rivals and at a price which is very affordable. Aesthetically well designed and very easy to use. The “Auto” range feature is exceptional which means no fumbling about guessing what setting you should use on any of its functions, it just does it all automatically for you. It’s accurate, it’s fast, it’s a mid range product at high end spec. The accompanying booklet would be better served if it was larger ie: same as the package box, and a carry case would have been a nice addition to store the meter and it’s accompanying leads. (Maybe AstroAI will read this review and send me one for free) fingers crossed !!

Meter does exactly as it should. Good build quality. Easy to read screen. Good clear instruction booklet. Good value for money. Of all the makes and models out there I am happy I settled on this one, having watched a very comprehensive review and test on YouTube (jazztechUK).

I already have other multimeters, which frankly feel better built, but for all their functions and accuracy none happen to have a max/min function. I wanted to leave a meter in series with my car battery for a day to see if any modules were waking up when they shouldn't be and causing it to lose charge. Once the car has gone to sleep I can press the Max button and when I come back at the end of the day it'll show the highest value. (Hint - not mentioned in the user manual but I found you can disable Auto Power Off by holding down Select whilst turning it on. It'll beep 5 times and then power up without APO displayed on the screen. It'll then beep 5 times every 15 minutes as a reminder rather than turning itself off. APO is restored next time you turn it on) If you need Max/Min capture then this DT132A is an absolute bargain. If you don't need that then there are other cheap meters around that feel a bit more robust. I'd suggest Uni-T, having had a couple of their meters for a few years now. Their UT890C is currently the same price here on Amazon.

I love this multimeter because it is accurate and easy to use. I am a mechanic for a golf coarse and purchased this product to test the start capacitor on our irrigation jockey pump motor as well as the start capacitor on our air compressor motor. Many multimeters lack the ability test a capacitors microfarad rating, this one can. Quite often I find my self using my multimeter for various other tasks such as checking the continuity on switches, fuses and wiring. Part of being a golf coarse mechanic requires testing a-lot of battery voltages. For example, we are running a electric Club Cart fleet with a 48 volt system. Now if that overall voltage drops below 30 volts your charger will not engage in charging those batteries. You have to bring the overall voltage up above the 30 volt threshold in order for that charger to work. Another big issue that arises in golf cart batteries is that as the batteries age, some become weaker than others putting a strain on the stronger batteries. That's why it is important for me to having a good reliable product in my hand. I have found the Astro AI Digital Multimeter to be vary accurate and reliable. The bottom line is, I would recommend this product to those who are looking for something can be used for various tasks at hand. For the price range it is an excellent multimeter.
