Looking for the perfect light machine gun...
The small arms debate goes on, year by year and conflict by conflict, especially with respect to machine guns. This reviewer remembers wrestling with the ungainly M240 squad machine gun, which fired a 7.62 round. More recently, the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, and their NATO allies, have used variants of the FN Minimi light machine gun, designated in the U.S. as the M249. The M249 has the virtue of being operable by one soldier. It fires the 5.56 round, of which more may be carried. But this is not the end of the discussion..."The FN Minimi Light Machine Gun" is an Osprey Weapon Series book, authored by Chris McNabb, with illustrations by Johnny Shumate and Alan Gilliland. The narrative explores the development, use, and continuing controversy over light machine guns, particularly in light of years of recent combat experience for the U.S. and many of its NATO allies. The controversy of 5.56 vs. 7.62 is aired but not resolved. There are lots of technical details for the military weapons enthusiast, braced up by a great selection of photographs, illustrations and diagrams. Well recommended to the student of military small arms

Very interesting and well-researched look at the design and development of the Minimi machine gun
. This weapon gives the squad truly awesome firepower at their disposal and this book traces its roots at Fabrique Nacionale small arms works to its adoption by the US Army, Marines and several foreign armies. Not the complete history of the weapon but very close to it.

Read all about the go to Light Machine Gun of the last 30 years
This is a good reference book for anyone interested in one of the most important light machine guns of the last 40 years. I'd have like to read a bit more about the 7.62mm "Maximi" and less about the debate with the US marines M27.

Interessante monografia
