I don’t think the 8 and up rating is appropriate ...
I don’t think the 8 and up rating is appropriate since there is details of sexual abuse. My son came to me asking what it all meant. He had no idea and this is NOT how I would have preferred him find out. Come on publishers and Amazon!! Put some warnings or change your ratings for books. This is ridiculous!!

Inappropriate for younger kids
Bought this for my 9 y/o son during quarantine. He made it through other books and just started reading this. He loves basketball! He was crying from something he read and would not go to sleep. He finally told us about one of the basketball players that was featured, had “really bad stuff done to him”. I read the few pages and was horrified to read about sexual assault that one of the basketball players as a child endured. I was horrified that I had picked this book for him. It clearly states 8&up. I will be writing to the publisher as well. Now my boy is afraid of babysitters. Not that we go out with social distancing at this time. Just be warned.

Good message, has sensitive topics not for every child to read
I did not see reviews before buying this that mentioned some of the sensitive topics that the book deals with. It is likely a wonderful book, but SHOULD warn parents of the topics that are covered so that they can decide if their child is ready to read them. Putting this as a 4th or 5th grade reading level is irresponsible.

Great, enjoyable read for my son.
My son is really enjoying this book. We got it for him for Christmas - we had been struggling to find things for him to read that interested him...and when I noticed he liked reading his Sports Illustrated magazine more than the library books, I figured we'd try some non-fiction. He knows most of these athletes already, and he loves basketball, soccer, tennis, and baseball, so the stories have some relevance for him. It's been a great new reading book that he's really enjoying, and it's definitely at a level than an 11-year-old can get through and understand.

Great for young readers.
My 9 and 11 year olds both enjoyed this book. I’d put it around a 4th-5th grade reading level.

To say that they love it would be an understatement
I bought this book for our grandsons, ages 11, 8 and 6. To say that they love it would be an understatement. It is written in a style and a voice that communicates directly with them, and the examples are timely and inspiring. The 11 year old and the 8 year old take turns reading a chapter to each other and the 6 year old enjoys listening to the stories. It is a great birthday present and every school library should have a copy.

Poignant life lessons
My eleven year old learned so much about struggle, grit and determination from this book. He would share the highlights from each chapter with me every night. This is an excellent teaching and communication tool to discuss sports and real life lessons that can be learned from athletes, beyond all the glamour our kids see in the media.

Great book
Christmas present for my 10.5 year old. He is not a lover of books per se, but has throughly enjoy this book. Many stories of athletes that he is familiar with.

Truly Inspirational!!
Bought this for my sports crazy grandson for Christmas but Ive read most of the short stories. Very interesting and truly inspirational. Real life always beats fiction. I’m sure he’ll love it too.
