Barfly Tapered Ice Pick, Beech Wood

It's more than an ice pick. It's a conversation piece. It's an ice carving knife. It's a knife for cutting garnishes. There's nothing it can't do. This bad boy has held an edge like a champ and hasn't let me down yet. My only complaint, and it's more of a preference, is the unfinished wood handle. As you know, handling ice means water and water is rough on untreated wood. After a while the texture of the handle just became unpleasant. However, the handle never lessened in sturdiness or quality. I lathered it up in some linseed oil and it pretty much resolved the issue. You will find the same issue with the sheath, but it's much less of an issue.

The item that I received should not have made it past QA. There was a 1 mm gap between the blade and the handle (the tang of the blade was not completely pressed in to the handle). I fixed this by putting it in a vice and carefully tapping on the handle. Four stars because this is Barfly's problem. Keep an eye out for this kind of thing, Jeff.

It's solid tool. I'm going to make mine look like a sifi PlayStation.

Tang came out of handle and the bolster also came unglued within one week. Had to wood glue the tang into the handle. Knife looks super cool but the edge needed sharpening on arrival and the blade shape makes it easy to hit your knuckles on the cutting board. Just an extra thing to keep in mind when shaping your ice

I plan to gift sons this item at Christmas. It’s impressive

Cool looking. Kind of cheap tho. The handle and the blade separated. The sheathe is not well made the blade literally gets wedged in there ,and is difficult to remove. But with a little modifications. It has the potential to be a great product
