- Multiple seeds can be planted in a single starter container, but should be thinned once seedlings appear so only a single plant remains. Seeds do not require light for germination but some light source should be provided for seedlings once they emerge from the soil.
- Cool soils, below about 60-65F, even just at night, will significantly delay or inhibit germination. Additionally, overly warm soils, well above 90F, can inhibit germination and provide ideal conditions for seed rot.
- Over watering can cause fungal growth which leads to seed rot. Excess water can also bury seeds deep in the soil where they will not be able break the surface. Water when the soil surface just begins to dry.
Very tasty. A real workhorse in the garden. Yielding much later than many types and needs a long season. If you want a good old time classic eggplant, grow this one! Loves heat, pretty purple flowers, very strong, and you will love the thick eggplants that grow! 90 days. HOW TO GROW: Start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before last frost. Because eggplants need plenty of water and warm conditions to grow, drip irrigation, plastic mulch, or row covers are a good idea. All eggplants are chill sensitive. Eggplants prefer moderately fertile, well-drained loamy soil supplemented with plenty of added organic matter and a pH of 6.0-6.8. Water: Moderate. The plants are fairly drought tolerant, but need moist soil for maximum fruit production.
