I'm not familiar with Xbox controllers or their reliability but, this one does lose signal on me after playing for a more than a few hours.

Any Ubuntu Linux users? I'd like to buy this for my Ubuntu 13.10 gaming rig.

It works in Ubuntu. I've used it extensively to play games with my kids using this controller and the Steam controller simultaneously on Ubuntu 19.x, 20.x, 22.x. Works out of the box on Steam.

Can I use this controller to control a custom made airplane that I'm planning on building?

How does this compare in physical size to the PS3 controller? I'm looking for a controller smaller than the 360 one, hopefully PS3 size.

Buy a PS3 controller, they work. At least Generic ones do, I'm using a Japanese Hori Pad 3 Turbo Wireless with Steam and UPlay with almost no configuration issues. The batteries in this and the film it's coated in will drive you nuts. I never used mine more than twice.
