An Excellent Resource
This book is a solid introduction to the concepts that you need for web design. I've just returned to web design after a 20 year hiatus (basically back to being a beginner again). The author's writing style is super accessible and clear, the sections are laid out logically, and the exercises really help solidify the information that has been presented. This book is also a very handy reference. The color coding of the pages for the various sections makes it so that you can quickly get to what you're you're looking for. Even though it's geared toward beginners, the author doesn't shy away from advanced topics - helping readers understand how they relate to what they're learning and pointing readers in the right direction if they're interested in digging more deeply into advanced topics.

Geared toward CSS not toward actual programming
The title of this book is really a misnomer. It's not a book about web design. It's a book about website fashioning. In other words, it doesn't teach you to build a functional website (other than a very basic HTML page that takes 5 mins). It teaches you to make one prettier. I already have half a dozen CSS books. After five chapters and not really learning anything new, I perused the remainder of the book and returned it.Granted I have over a decade of web design and programming experience but haven't done it in a long time. The new generation who are calling themselves web designers are not really web designers. :(

5 Stars for sure, ignore the 1 star review
I have been learning Web Development for almost two years now and I'm still finding new & useful things from this book. This book provides plenty of examples and opportunities to do exercises.Ignore the 1 Star review where the guy said his wife didn't learn anything. Completely bogus review.

Excellent Book
Ive been tinkering with web design for years just for fun but wanted to get serious about learning new and updated technologies. This is a great class in a book on web design and Jennifer provides clear explanations to technical topics. Im reading every page as she provides great references for further reading. Highly recommend this book before you even take classes. Ive tried an online class but this book is way better.

Good for someone who is starting right at the beginning
This book introduces and explains the concepts and goes on to run through the HTML structures, styles and CSS, some JavaScript, the Document Object Model (DOM), and looks at the use of images in web pages and the things that can be done on a webpage. Someone who has not done this before should be able to design simple webpages after working through this book. If, having read it and worked through it, you want to do more advanced stuff on your webpages, you would need another book covering JQuery, ReactJS and server-side programming using Node.js for example.

Great Web Design book!
I've barely scratched the surface, but I really love what I'm reading so far. Jennifer, the author, really takes time to teach you about everything you need to know as a web designer/developer. I love all-in-one books and this book covers HTML, CSS, and Java Script. I'm a computer programmer learning web design and I really appreciate the in depth instruction, the color coded pages, and basically how everything is in color makes it a lot easier to understand on a website level (unlike many other books which are just in black and white).

The Basics and Then Some to Build a Website
There is a wealth of information here, carefully and meticulously presented--I cannot say enough to applaud the author's effort--on how to design via proper code elements, attributes, css styles, and some JavaScript, the layout of a website. Through the chapter examples the author practically stays with you each step of the way in adding structure, style, and/or functionality to the elements that would make up a website. As a beginner I find this a very helpful resource. Where things go beyond the scope, the author points you to countless resources--other books, websites, etc. that can elaborate on the concepts. Highly recommended.

Teachers and Professors: this is your book
I teach web design at the college level. We focus on the fundamentals so the students understand how and why HTML and CSS work the way they do. It makes them better designers. Their code is semantic, elegant, and efficient. It’s also accessible by default. All because of this book. Jennifer’s book is the go-to textbook for students. I can’t recommend it enough.

Good primer for anybody who works with web technoloigies
I've always been slightly sceptical about buying this book as it doesn't really fit with the other titles on my shelf which are mostly JS and PHP and this seems aimed at the beginner. However, I don't specifically programming in code editors but work with a range of software that normally has code support - like Adobe Flash / Animate, etc. I know there are lots of similar applications that make web content / development more visual based but allow developers who work with code to extend the platform. This book is excellent for designers who need to develop such as in CSS or JS, but it's also excellent for developers (like myself), that need to have a better grounding across all web technology. It's probably over priced for anybody with existing web development experience as you could easily search online for most the bits you don't know - however, it's really well written & presented, informative, easy to read and a serious tome of core knowledge that's worth refreshing your understanding of - or learning from the start.

a bit chaotic, not well structured for a people that want to learn web design from beginning
Lots of new concepts, new tags and lots of reading but just a few exercises to really practice all of it. It starts interesting with a build of a website but then in the next chapters you learn new things you practice them a bit but never used those skills in building and implementing into that website you started at the beginning of this book. I haven't found it very helpful or practical in real-world of website design. Do not recommend for people who never have anything to do with website design etc. I gave it 2 stars as there are a few bit and pieces that come useful..

Great Starting Point for Beginners
Bought this book as recommended by my university to start learning the basics of HTML, CSS and JS. Loads of detailed information on HTML and CSS. Very well written and easy to understand as someone with no prior coding experience. Great book to get anyone started in learning the the basics of frontend Web development. Would highly recommend 👌
