Good intro for hobbyists
Good little scope. Great if you need some good magnification but don't want to shell out big bucks. Been using it to view nematodes and ID algae and moss, works just fine. LEDs could be brighter but it's workable.

It's a decent scope.
Not lab quality but good enough for hobby use. I think some reviews are a bit harsh. You shouldn't expect surgical scope quality on Christmas gift budget.

Super easy for beginners to learn in 20 minutes!
Had no idea what I was doing. The instructions were really helpful. Within 20 minutes of making adjustments and learning how to use it, I could finally see the individual fibers of a paper, it was absolutely incredible! Basically you just have to get the right combination of your eyepiece, light, the magnification and the height of the stand. Start at the 10x eyepiece and lowest height and lowest magnification. Then, start by raising the stand all the way up, slowly. If you don't find your sweet spot, rotate to a higher magnification and start over. You'll get the hang of it soon. One issue I had was, right out of the box, there seemed to be this small little black dot on their default 10x eyepiece, which frustrated me. Definitely protect your microscope at all times with their provided dust cover, or else 1 little fuzzy or hair or piece of dust will seriously affect your eyepiece. This was really great because it's fairly cheap and kid friendly. I'm not too worried about my 12 year old niece playing around with it, and might even let my 5 year old niece have a go, too. You just have to be mindful about smudging lenses, and dust. Cleanliness is your friend with these guys. Have fun!!!

AN EXCELLENT INTRODUCTION INTO THE FASCINATING WORLD OF MICROSCOPY
The SWIFT Compound Monocular Microscope SW200DL with 40X-1000X Magnification, Dual Light, Precision Fine Focus, Wide-Field 25X Eyepiece and Cordless Capability was purchased during April of 2021 for the price of $91.99 plus tax. It is available now for the price of $89.99 plus tax and a 10% discount with coupon (December 3, 2024). There has been a microscope in my life ever since the 4th grade. Having been given one at that age changed my life in the direction of science as well as art. The SWIFT Monocular Microscope is an excellent choice for individuals interested in seeing some of the unseen. I have a LEICA Binocular Biological Microscope, as well as a laboratory quality NIKON Binocular Microscope. Both of which are rather large and unwieldy for travel. I acquired the SWIFT microscope because I was traveling and couldn't transport either of the other microscopes to new locations on a regular basis. It was utilized in order to become familiar with the use of a SWIFT Microscope Ocular Camera and the accompanying software...as well as the use of various focus staking software applications. In addition, I'd never used a microscope that featured illumination that originates above the stage. This SWIFT Monocular Microscope is well built, well designed, and completely portable. Although the techniques for illumination has multiplied significantly, this microscope, with the use of the SWIFT Microscope Ocular Camera, is an excellent introduction for anyone interested in the process by which photomicrographic images are produced. It would make an excellent gift for a grade schooler who exhibits an interest in the world of science. Throughout the years, I have given microscopes to children as gifts hoping that its use would introduce them into the wonderful world of microscopy. I will continue to do so!

You just can't beat an optical system.
I have done a lot of research before I finally decided to give this a try. I need the real stuff, something better than those 30 dollars “digital” ones for inspecting some samples from work but I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars for the professional lab equipment either. Pros: It works. It’s solid. And it lights up from both above and bottom so it allowed me to inspect non-translucent parts. Image quality is reasonably good. Cons: The high power 40x object lens blocks the light source from above and it had a super close focus distance which combined made this lens pretty much useless. The only way I can see is by shining a flashlight from the side using one hand. Overall this thing will blow those digital ones out of the picture. And at this price point, I’ll even say it’s well made. If you need a real microscope like the one you used at middle school and you’re spending your own money I’ll say go for it.

It's a piece of junk
Read the 1 star reviews carefully. They are to the point. We bought this as a birthday gift. Today was his birthday and we presented it to him as his gift. He was so excited and when he opened it, it just didn't turn on. After trying for like 15 minutes, the LEDs started to show very dim and they were blinking like if there were some loose connections. Every time we turned the microscope off and on, it was unpredictable whether the LEDs are bright or dim and blinking. Even those few times that we were able to get a bright LED, the maximum magnification was not even close to 1000X. One of the lenses was not even making a focus image. It was hitting the sample glass and still no focus image. The other two lenses were ok but my estimate is that the maximum magnification was may be about 100X. So the images they show as the magnification are not accurate. Amazon is refunding this product and we are returning it. Never trusting this seller again.
