Lion King On Broadway

It maybe heard around to believe that in 2 years, that it would be 10 years that the Lion King made its debut on broadway, and still a big hit after all these years. The Lion King played here in during a 9 month run that was sold out, and just this past summer the Lion King made its return to Chicago, and the same theatre it last perfonmed at when it was in Chicago, and it had the same director (Julie Taymor) when it first played on broadway, but i am saddned to say that this is the last week that the Lion King is in its last week here in Chicago, but it moves on, I saw it when it first played Chicago, but it may still return in a couple of years. Also in 2003, Disney released the Lion King as a part of ther Special Pladium Edition, and even added Morning Report in. Even if the movie is 88 minutes long, the play is 2 hours and 45 minutes, with the 15 intermission. SO they added songs that wasn't in the movie, the songs are 1. Circle of Life 2. Grassland Chant 3. The Morning Report 4. The Lioness Hunt 5. I Just Can't Wait to be King 6. Chow Down 7. They Live in You 8. Be Prepared 9. The Stampede 10. Rafiki Mourns 11. Hakuna Matata 12. One by One 13. The Madness of King Scar 14. Shadowland 15. The Lion Sleeps Tonight 16. Endless Night 17. Can You Feel the Love Tonight 18. He Lives in You (Reprise) 19. Simba Confronts Scar 20. Circle of Life (Reprise) The booklet gives you the lyrics, and the names of the voices that you will hear on this cd. So whtehr the show is playing your town or state, this should be a treat to listen to you, and even if you haven't seen it on broadway, it might be an great time to see the show, normally their 2 kids from the roles of Young Sioimba and Nala, so you had to wonder how they decided to come in to record the songs that Young Simba Or Nala, well she not seen as much, and she only is apart of I Can't Wait to Be King. And if you like this, I bet their are some other good orginal broadway cast recordings that you would have to listen to, no matter how long they have been out.

I'm a big lion king fan, we saw the play on Broadway and took the kids to see it. The kids love listening to this cd.

From the beginning, the animated film The Lion King pushed the limits of Disney. But this cast album takes Disney to an entirely different country, and to a new level of realism and honesty. For in this album, the familiar tunes by E. John and T. Rice are overpowered by the work of South African artist Lebo M. Sung in Zulu and Xhosa, the Lioness Hunt and the Grasslands Chant are joyfully reminiscent of Ladysmith Black Mambazo. Haunting and piercing are the lament Rafiki Mourns (sung by a woman with a voice that could challenge any of the divas of rock, r&b, or soul), the political unifier One by One, which belongs on an anti-apartheid protest, and the beautifully rendered Shadowland which urges the protagonist to "remember her pride," a wonderful double-entendre. Also gems are "They Live in You/He Lives in You," the song written to remind Simba of the presence of the ancestors, and "Endless Night," Simba's cry of desperation for his father's presence. The cast voices are at turns piercing, crystalline, urgent, and warm. The album will have you playing it over and over again, even if you never ante up the money to go to Broadway (which at the writing of this review, I have not done). In this brilliant album Disney has continued for South African music the exposure and celebration that Paul Simon began in Graceland! Buy it.

My review is colored by seeing this show on tour. The memories of that are tied to the music on the CD. The sheer joy contained in I Just Can't Wait to Be King contrasts with the plotting in Be Prepared. And the romance in Can You feel the Love Tonight is so sweet. This is a CD that I would strongly suggest getting as a CD and not only as digital. The booklet includes the lyrics, including translations from Swahili. I finally know what Rafiki is singing! I do enjoy the convenience of Auto-Rip, though, and feel that gives me the best of both worlds. Some people were surprised the songs in the play differed some from the movie. If you are looking for songs as they were performed in the movie, this is probably not what you are looking for. Recommended for anyone who enjoyed the musical.

Great soundtrack, feels like being in the theatre. But I recommend it only for those who have seen the Broadway show or really enjoy these type of recordings, otherwise you may be disappointed, don't expect a Disney Soundtrack.

The Lion King is an extraordinary live musical theater experience and this two-disc CD/DVD set gives you a touch of the magic of the live performance. The CD is the soundtrack of the original Broadway cast singing the hits; the second disc is a DVD taking you behind the scenes in terms of how the hit musical was developed and you see the sets, actors and dancers wearing the puppets on stage; the make-up; and very interesting information about the process to bring the hit animated movie to the live stage. This two-disc CD/DVD set is wonderful for anyone who loves the live stage production of the Lion King. Until Disney Studios decide to allow a DVD of the entire live performance of the musical to be made this two-disc set is the next best thing. Inside the jewel case there is also a booklet giving you the credits and dialogue of the musical. This Special 2-Disc Edition captures the moments of magic brought to the stage in The Lion King. Note: The Lion King touring musical is a must-see for anyone over the age of three--I plan to see it every time it plays in my area and I've already seen it three times!

The lion king broadway soundtrack is exactly as pictured and described. It is in great condition and shipped and received quick.

何度聞いても飽きないです。 冒頭のラフィキの「ナーンツィゴンニャ～」から引き込まれます。 色々な曲調の曲で構成されており、華やかな感じです。 特筆すべきは、 アフリカン音楽の部分のコーラスがすごくきれいなこと。 ズールー語の響きが、日本のようにカタカナ化されてないので、 歌詞がとても澄んでいて、聴き応えがあります。 また、同じくディズニーミュージカル『アイーダ』で オリジナルアイーダ役を演じた、Heather Headlyがナラ役。 やはり、彼女の歌唱力はナラでも絶品です。 もちろん、シンバのJason Raizeも素晴らしいです。 ちなみに、 このＣＤはピクチャーディスクで（ロゴのライオンの顔です） 「ハイエナダンス」の曲は入っていません。 ハイエナダンスは、ドイツ盤には入っています。 （日本と比べると少しテンポが遅めですが・・・） ドイツ盤も、歌が力強い感じでオススメですよ。

I just saw The Lion King last month the costumes singing and dancing were all beautiful that i had to get the CD for it . Thank you .

Per chi ha nostalgia del vecchio cartone animato e per chi ha visto il musical e non vuol perdere il ricordo di uno spettacolo memorabile e di voci eccezionali. Emozionante!

At the time of seeing the show, it hadn't even occured to me that songs from The Lion King 1, 2, and 3 were included. 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' being included briefly, is a moment of genious from Mark Mancina and his team. If this soundtrack doesn't make you smile NOTHING will!
