"Me GRIMLOCK, Me ok with Grimlock Figure!"
Ok, lots of 50/50 opinions on the guy. I can definitely see both arguments on the figure. I'll start with the robot mode first. The figure is again a scaled down leader class. He's roughly 9"-9.5" tall. This mode is where the figure shines the most. The head sculpt is pretty wicked in itself. All of the dinobots seem to be taking on a knight-like persona in there robot modes. Grimlock's chest is chrome plastic along with the inside of his lower legs as well as the T-Rex head that splits to create his shoulder armor. A lot of people have said that this figure has too much chrome and in the wrong places. The chrome apps in person do not look that bad. I think they balance the figure out. When compared to the OP generations leader, Grimlock is a lot bulkier and a tad bit taller. The detail is pretty cool and isn't completely washed out by the chrome. The head sculpt actually has a lot of detail but isn't seen due to paint apps being a little too dark. He isn't ridiculously hard to transform, tho the instructions given have you transforming the figure in it's alt mode to robot mode. just reverse the order and there you have it. Now where the figure lacks the most is in it's alt mode which is a T-Rex with horns. The proportions are a little off. The legs needed to be moved forward just a bit and because of that lack of design the torso appears too long and the tail section appears too short. It doesn't completely kill the look of the figure but it doesn't necessarily help it either. The back of the figure is where all of the chrome comes together giving you a nice shiny detailed back. The rigid frame of the alt mode and ultimate design isn't bad at all. Despite the awkward long torso, the T-Rex alt mode eventutally ends up growing on you. I have mine in the Tyrannosaurus Rex mode. The detail on the head is pretty impressive and the eyes almost give off a green glow. The lower jaw is articulated so the mouth can open and close. The horns and teeth are made of soft rubber. Again, once you transform from robot to T-Rex, your first initial reaction is "wow, that is one weird looking dinosaur" lol. But that mode will grow on you. Does the figure have flaws? Absolutely. Is he worth $45? I would say yes. Even with it's flaws and imperfections, it's just a cool figure to have in your collection. I mean its Grimlock, leader of the Dinobots. I would totally recommend this figure. Whether you're a newcomer or an old fan/collector of transformers or if you just like the movies. If you get the chance to pick it up, I totally would, it will not let you down.

Me shiny!
Great, really fun transformer. It's a next generation Grimlock and I am excited to see where he goes from here. It is a solid mold with a fun transformation. The chrome on him does look really nice and the gold bronze color as well. If your looking for a G1 grimlock, this isn't it and it's not supposed to be. If that's one of your complaints, then play with the G1 toy you already own. This is something new and fun to enjoy!

Great toy for boys
Really good transformer design! I've been reading the reviews and don't know why everyone thinks it's impossible to transform. True that the instructions given are horrible (that's true of all the transformer toys though), but even my 7 year old was able to figure it out after a couple times going through it. All transformers have snap in place slot/tabs and once you see that it's pretty easy to transform it. If you snap all the tab/slots correctly, it's solid in either form. The toy lost one star because one of these slots seemed to be filled up completely with plastic mold flashing or some kind of glue? which prevented the dino back halves being able to be snapped in place the right way in dino mode (wasn't an issue in bot mode). I had to very carefully cut it out on my own, a bother I shouldn't have had for sure. The tail does stay on really good once you put it on the dino mode correctly (I'm assuming other reviewers didn't figure out how to attach it). Both dino and bot mode were able to be stand on their own when positioned upright. Unfortunately, if you loose the dino axe or shield you won't be able to transform it, as they are both made from the tail section.

Our model was not good. Would not buy. A disemboweled dino-creature. Find another version.
It is tough to swim against the tide of good reviews. The model we received is annoying and not as expected. We liked other transformers from this series more. We had to go to youtube to investigate the best way to transform from the figure to the dino-creature. As other amazon reviews say, the instructions for this transformer only shows us how to transform from the dino-creature to the figure. The images in this set of directions are not as good as the directions from other transformers. The online video reviews of this transformer are quite negative. We wish that we saw them. We would have chosen another version of this transformer. The model we received was redesigned from earlier editions of this toy and the ones we found in youtube videos. The teeth are a different color, the chest of the figure is deeper, the locking of the feet has changed and the underside operates differently. The most annoying part is the underside that does not click into place. It looks like the dino-creature was disemboweled. Our kids joke that the dino-creature is taking a dump all the time. Even the photo shows the gray underside hanging low.

This is a very good AOE Transformer as far as I am concerned
This is a very good AOE Transformer as far as I am concerned. It is slightly under sized for Leader Class but in either mode it large enough to display well. As far as pros and cons go.... The instructions only show Dino to robot... so it may be a bit tricky transforming Grimlock the first time but there are some YouTube videos that are very helpful Cons: Dino mode has very little articulation (Just the jaws and legs) The proportion of Dino mode is a little funky, the t-Rex arms are almost nonexistent Balance can be an issue for either mode depending on how the legs are positioned Very thick ratchet joints in the hips/shoulders you will either have Grimlock's arms all the way down, or out a bit with the elbows bent Pros: Color is very flashy and bold Not a lot of visible kibble when in robot mode Robot mode is very pose able, feet move knees, thigh swivel, elbows, hands and the shoulders move but are on a stiff joint Weapons are pretty cool, the shield and mace are the tail of Dino mode and Grimlock holds the mace very well, however the shield just tabs into the Dino feet tucked behind his hands.
