The multifocal idea for 'readers' actually does work for these spectacles. No need to deal with 15 and 2.0 and 2.5 focal lengths
To agree with earlier favorable reviews, my specific situation is this: Had cataract surgery early today (Aug 23, '18) with (now) both eyes done "far" and thus, need for "readers" for close work. I ordered in advance, the 1.0 model of these items, and after just a 1/2 day of using them, I hope they don't break at the frames, because.... with the dilations wearing off, I can already see how my distance vision - say, flatscreen HD at about 8-10 feet - my vision in both eyes is almost as crisp as my (now) 20/20 vision in both eyes with my new intraocular lenses. And yes - the "multifocus" idea does work, even as my today's surgical dilations wear off, in that my close vision is sharp, up to about 2-1/2 feet away and on out to the TV. I'm impressed, and I use a laptop on a chair-arm support to use the internet as we all do, and this makes it possible to watch TV and do the closer work (not REAL close, like 1 or 2 feet away) - do the closer work with ease of vision. Note: the farthest focus is at the top of the lens, and with the 1.0 mag I ordered, there is just slight magnification at the top of the lens. At the bottom it's about a 2.0 focus requirement. Good product. If the frames DO break, I would consider buying two more pairs, until I tire of replacing them or buy prescription trifocals to make life easy. I wear this single pair of spex, constantly. I would add, now on Sept. 19, that fully recovered from cat surgery, I can read with one pair of these multifocals, up to one foot away; and for "far", I can see clearly up to ten + feet away. Further, and there is slight magnification, so for say, driving, I don't use anything over my eyes save perhaps for plain sunglesses; closer than a foot? I use a 2.0 or even a 2.5 for very close work. Great product! Second update: Uh oh! Now, on Sept 22, '18, the hinges suddenly ? have begun to work loose from the frames, same as described in many earlier reviews. I'll buy another two pairs, and if quality control not improved for this subsequent purchase, I'll look for other brands. I LOVE these multifocals, as they work wonderfully, technically - but if the hinges continue to break, I'd recommend avoiding them. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment....

Worth Every Penny and More
Glasses arrived well packaged, are exactly as described, are sturdier than my RX glasses, and most importantly, I can now see! Glasses arrived in an Amazon box, packaged in bubble wrap, plastic wrap and one arm protector. Thanks to the reviews, I received exactly what I was expecting in reference to color, size and quality of the lens. I ordered the 3.75, which is perfect for me. The "progressive" feature is better than my Lens Crafters RX Glasses, which were approx. 10X the cost. Of course, a quality exam, quality lens, tints and frames with structural integrity is my first choice, but when I lose them or want multiple pairs the Foster Grant(s) are a great substitute. The noise bridge is slightly large for my little noise, but not worth complaining since one can not expect a custom fit. Thanks to other's reviews I believe I selected exactly what I needed and would definitely recommend. With Amazon's 30 day return policy worth giving them a try.

Excellent glasses. Shipping package and glasses case need improvement.
I bought these as a higher-strength replacement for the same Foster Grant reading glasses that I have now. They're exactly as described, and I'm pleased with their appearance, performance, and comfort. I deducted a star because they were sent in a plastic envelope lined with small bubble-wrap. This provided minimal protection during shipping. Fortunately, they arrived in excellent condition, but I would have preferred a sturdier, recyclable small box. The fabric glasses case is too small. It matches the frame width and height, but there isn't enough material to accommodate the depth of the closed temples / arms. I'm not comfortable jamming the glasses into it. I should not have to buy a separate case that fits properly because of a design defect.

Great style/fit
I have ordered my third pair of the Shiny Tortoise in 2.75. Love the style, look and snug (but not too snug) fit. Crystal clear and perfect multifocus.

Wow!!
I've recently had to start wearing glasses, I've only ever worn readers before. I took my prescription to and eye lab, ordered some progressive lenses along with distance glasses, spent $600. The distance glasses were ok (but I don't really have a problem with distance anyway) the progressives were terrible, I've returned them twice to have them redo them and they still don't work for me. On a whim I looked at the FG progressives, I really like the quality of their readers, so I thought I'd give them a shot...for $35 what did I have to lose? OMG these glasses are great!!! Nice quality, great feel to them, very sturdy. I can wear them when I go out no blurry vision, I can read with them, I can do it all <3 I still use readers for computer stuff as I don't like having a small area for reading, but at least I can wear the progressives the majority of the time. What a relief!! Now if they just come up with a transition/progressive that would be perfect!!

Good look, lens shape, weak hinges
I love the non-progressive bifocal lens grind. Looking through the top half allows clear distance vision, but glancing through the bottom half works for reading or viewing close detail. They don’t have the weird lateral distortions that I’ve encountered with true progressive lens. The problem with these is that the hinges, for lack of a better word, suck. They break after a a few weeks of use. Some far cheaper glasses from a rack at a hardware store have way outlasted any of three attempts at using these glasses long term.

Stop looking over the tops of your readers!
Finally! You can leave these on and see up close and far away. The top is clear, the bottom magnifies, and it transitions in between. No more repetition of putting readers on the top of your head and then back on again to look at your phone. I like this style because it’s sturdy.

I really like these glasses, but I have to say after buying quite a few pairs they always seem to break easily.

Delivery was slow; I hadn't noticed they were coming from the USA. But they look good - classic Foster Grants - and they are great for close work such as reading and further away reading when working on a computer screen. Some Varifocals can take a little time to get used to; these didn't. Highly recommended!
