Just the trick
Worked perfect as intended.

Useless
Not only does this product not work, apparently it CAN'T work. Firewire and USB work completely differently and no adapter can change that. Every USB port I plug it into is immediately disabled. One time my screen froze until I unplugged it. Do your research before you waste your money like I did.

Works just great
Use to connect an OWC enclosure with a 4 TB HD, with a USB A - USB Micro cable, to a new Mac Mini.Works just fine.

USB to FireWire Adapter
The adapter fit both cables, but the electronics were not compatible. But, the adapter did fit.

This plug will not pass power to an iPod gen2.
I purchased this to charge my 20 year old iPod 2nd generation. It doesn’t work. It may pass data, but it will not pass power.

All of these Firewire to USB adaptors are useless
I should have done more research, but shame on me I didn't for $7.50. I presumed that there was some kind of chip inside of the adapter that did the conversion between Firewire and USB since I'm aware that they are different technologies. But nope, this adapter just connects the USB wires to some different wires in the Firewire port. This does nothing useful, and worst case if you aren't careful you could destroy your USB hub or the USB functionality of your laptop by connecting the wrong kind of Firewire device. I am disappointed that Amazon sells so many of these types of adapters since I can't see that they serve any purpose other than tricking people into buying them who assume that they will allow a mini-DV camcorder to connect to a laptop. They won't. There are a couple of YouTube videos that show how one might do this, but for a laptop it involves buying a couple of Thunderbolt connectors from Apple, and assume that your laptop has a Thunderbolt port. Otherwise the only viable solution I've seen is to use a Firewire card in a desktop PC.
