Want to wake up to a carpet of dead mosquitoes? This is the tool that can make it happen!
Just like the bug zapper grandma used to have! This thing works! We were being sucked dry by mosquitoes at the end of the summer and it was just intolerable to be outside. I got this a few days later got it hung out on my back porch and proceeded to massacre about two mosquitoes per second for the next three weeks. You could see a gray carpet of dead mosquito carcasses under this thing every morning. It was a glorious sight! It took out plenty of nasty cut worm moths as well. Highly effective almost frighteningly so. When I stood outside and watched it, it sounded like machine gun fire as the mosquitoes were flying into the bars. Seems to be plenty powerful to roast even the fattest moths. You get what you pay for. It is a little more expensive then the XYZ brands, but I would consider that an investment because you’ll get to use this for more than one year. Truly was a plug-in play system very easy to set up. Simply plug it in and you’re good to go. The outside cage seems plenty sturdy and the slits are small enough and far enough away from the electrical element to make sure you don’t accidentally touch it with your finger. My only minor complaint is that I had to unplug it each day and gently brush the dead moth carcasses off the electrical bars with a small twig by reaching through the safety great. After I got all of that cleaned off and my stick out and away, I plugged it back in for another day of reading my backyard of the insect hordes.

YES....This really works!
I rarely give 5 stars but if this keeps working as well as it has out of the box, this summer should have a lot less pesky bugs flying around our back porch on those warm, summer nights. I purchased the 1 Acre Coverage model because the smaller one was actually more expensive at the time plus it didn't seem like it would be as effective for my particular use. I have this plugged into a 50 feet, green outdoor quality extension cord and it is exactly 35 feet away from where we sit in the evening and night. (Never really planned it that way but that seems perfect so far) I have a 50 feet long row of hedges that stand a little over 4 feet tall and have been on my property for more than 45 years. They are great to have and separate my yard from my neighbor's. They are the perfect breeding ground for gnats, flies, mosquitoes or any type of bug that likes to bite you when you're trying to enjoy your evening. Rather than spray poisonous insecticide on my hedges, because of obvious reasons I purchased this and within seconds after I plugged it in it started snapping the little critters. I don't have mine on a timer but instead I thought I'd use the remote control electric outlet that I used to turn on and off our outside Christmas lights. (Hey, it works great plus I don't have to bend down and I can turn it off and on from inside my house if I want. Also had back surgery and bending is not good for me) The light is kinda brighter than I thought but that's actually good because it will attract more to it plus help even my neighbor's out. I do not plan on using this in the rain or even a light rain because it just makes more sense not to. Even if it doesn't hurt to I'm sure it will last longer if you take it out of the rainy weather if you think to. Not a hard thing to do plus a high wind might knock it down if not secured well. I have mine on a Shepherds Hook that was used for a bird feeder in the winter. Sorry I got off the main subject but was trying to give you ideas on how to place the zapper since it works so well but yet you wouldn't want it drawing bugs to you but instead away. The replacement bulb seems a little expensive too from what I seen so take care of the unit and do common sense maintenance on it and hopefully this will last for years, outside of buying those bulbs. I am trying to include a short video. Do not be afraid to purchase this bug zapper. Unless it arrives broken or defective you will be very happy with the results.

Effective
Works great, well-built and took care of our mosquito issue 100%, which was the reason we purchased this. Sadly though, it also attracted the praying mantises that inhabited our garden and zapped four. They are attracted to the blue light. Also noticed spider activity was higher around the light because of the critters drawn to it. Five star due to effectiveness and we will hopefully figure out the praying mantis situation.

Works well, but not as many mosquitoes as Mosquito Magnet
The unit worked perfectly right out of the box. It does attract an array of insects, and I'm ashamed to say, it's satisfying to hear the zap of an unwary insect flying into its grid. I have a garden nearby, and have come to realize that a number of those moths flying around are responsible for the caterpillars chewing on my plants. My guilt for targeting anything but mosquitoes decreased. Before buying this unit, I read reviews, and people seemed to have varying opinions about whether it attracts mosquitoes. Well, I needed to know for sure. I used the included attractant. At first, I just placed a sheet of cardboard beneath it to monitor the catch. I saw a variety of insects the next morning, and some of them were mosquitoes. Not a ton, but some. However, I also noticed a couple of other things. The ants quickly discovered this cache and were making off with the carcasses. Moles/voles (?) started tunneling under/near the unit, perhaps attracted by the commotion of insects congregating. Some of the larger moths attracted by the unit were on the cardboard, stunned but not dead. I may not qualify for sainthood here, but I don't like the idea of critters suffering so I upped the lethality a little. Instead of cardboard, I placed a pan of water below the unit , with a dash of dish soap to decrease the water surface tension. I checked it daily and while my "catches" vary from night to night, there were definitely more mosquitoes in the mix. One night, there must have been a black fly convention in town, because there were at least 300 of them in the pan. The moths are now "swimming with the fishes" in the morning, and if one somehow survives the gauntlet of the unit and the water, I think it's earned its freedom and I let it escape. I could go on, but I am personally happy with the unit. The outside weather doesn't bother it, and if a fried insect sticks to the grid, it is easily brushed off with a small stick. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it doesn't kill everything that hits the grid. I'd like it better if it was "lights out" immediately for anything that hits it...no suffering or delay.

I have 4 of these and they are awesome. The cable is 2-prong, unlike the 1.5 acre model which is 3
I have 4 of these and they work great (one died in 2019, see edit below). Two of them are this size, while the other two are the larger 1.5 acre size. All four of the units work flawless and have zapped thousands and thousands of bugs for me. There were small piles of dead bugs eventually forming and it made me smile. I ended up cutting out some of the plastic guarding to allow easier access for the bugs. I want them all to die as fast as possible! MUWAHAHAHA This is a great addition and does not effect your unit in any way other than good, so do it. Cutting out 3 or 4 plastic guards per side works best for me - each with varying height so that the light is more randomly refracted outward and attracts insects betters. One thing you should note - and the only difference I could find between this unit and the largest 1.5 acre unit (except for a small size difference of course) - is that the BK-40D does not have a 3-prong power cable like that of the 1.5 acre model, and instead uses a regular 2 prong power cable. If you plan on using the BK-40D outside be careful in choosing your extension cable, as using a 3-prong extension cable will leave you with one hole exposed to the elements, which could create problems with rain. So be sure to tape it up if you do! Last note: the difference you will see after using these units is amazing! My area gets a ton of mosquitos and I have yet to be bit once this entire year. Bugs just can get enough and I can't see how I lived without these before. EDIT 6/11/2020 - ADDED VIDEO In the video I show 3 of the flowtrons in action in my pecan grove. I hang them on different trees every other day or so. This bug action is mild compared to when it's really pitch black outside (especially when the moon isn't out). I have a massive herd of toads who I've friended living outside, eating up all the dead insects. My machines zaps hundreds of bugs a minute all night long, and I've had them for 2 or 3 summers now, using them half of the year 10 hours a night. One of my smaller flowtrons gave out on me at the end of last year but they are very affordable so I wasn't too upset. Will be replacing and adding more over time.

It's AWESOME but you do have to clean it.
After soaking the yard in a thousand different pesticides (and probably killing more fish and honeybees than Mosquitoes, I finally opted to go old school. Bought this for $40 and put it in the garden, about 100 feet from the pool/patio via a long extension cord with a dusk/dawn external timer. Set it up at about 4pm and walked away. All of the sudden I hear a zap at around 6pm, look out and and see the light is on. And then it got darker... much darker... By 7pm it was nearly a continuous buzz with tiny pillars of smoke rising up through the air. We're talking 4-5 mosquitoes per second. We couldn't get within 20 feet without being swarmed. But it was zapping away and killing bugs at a genocidal pace. I went out at 10 pm. And it was completely clogged. When I say clogged, i mean there were at least 10,000 mosquitoes on it. (No, I'm not exaggerating, they were a half inch thick.) And there was a pile of dead bugs on the ground so it's not like they all stuck. At 4 bugs per second, we may have killed 57,600 bugs in just 4 hours. Fortunately I'm a computer tech so I carry around a 20cf bottle of compressed nitrogen for cleaning out computers. I just hit it with a few blasts, the grates were clean and it went back to work sentencing every blood sucker in a 1000 foot radius to certain death. They could certainly improve this with a built in photosensor as other companies have done, and an easier way to clean it. Buy yourself a can of compressed air and just blast it every once in a while. It's been about 2 weeks and some days are worse than others, but it does seem to need cleaning just about every day. I know it says it has an anti-clogging grid, but I think that everything has it's limits. The good news is that my garden has tons of fertilizer and we haven't been bitten once since installing this. There are hardly any bugs circling my floodlight and we have our yard back! Be aware that the garden is probably not the best place for this, I'll be moving it shortly as the area is now covered in spider webs. What isn't caught by the zapper is captured by them, so I can't really complain, but not what you want for your garden. This costs pennies to run plus a few bucks a month for a new attractant. If it was easier to clean and had a dusk to dawn sensor it would be perfect. But when you consider that it completely kills millions of mosquitoes, I think those are easy things to overlook. Probably any bug zapper would work about as well as long as you use the Octonol.
