Significant improvement over stock
purchased these bulbs for the high and low beams in my '11 Jetta because I live in a rural area and do a lot of night driving. The difference from stock is spectacular. Noticeably brighter on the road, greater throw, and slightly whiter to look at (not nearly HID white, but better than stock). Do these compare to factory HIDs in projector housings? Well, not exactly. But they are superior to any stock halogen and about are as bright and legal as one can get. Just a few caveats for these bulbs, 1) as with all halogens, wear clean nitrile/latex gloves when installing as any oil off your skin or dirt will greatly reduce their life; don't eat french fries, install the bulbs, then rate them 1 star because they burnt out the next day; and 2) Their burn time as per past experience and Sylvania literature is a fraction of normal halogens, expect to replace these at least once a year. To me, the trade-offs are worth it -- I will give up longevity for greater visibility and safety. If you can't sacrifice longevity and don't think the extra $20 a year is worth seeing better, then look elsewhere. But just note that any halogen bulb that can deliver greater actual performance will have significantly less burn time because the filaments can only handle so much extra power before giving up. UPDATE 1, October 2012: 13 months and 16,000 miles later and the bulbs are still going strong. I had installed Silverstar Ultras in my highs, lows, and fogs in a 2011 VW Jetta, and all 6 remain intact (living in a rural area I usually run with the fog/driving lights on). So take this testament as you will against those that say their bulbs burned out quickly. Also, some manufacturers run higher voltages to the headlights causing these types of high output halogens to burn out fast. From my experience at least, VW doesn't appear to be among them. UPDATE 2, August 2013: My first bulb, a low beam, finally burned out; 23 months/27,000 miles after being installed.

Brighter than my stock halogen low beams in my 328i BMW but expect them to last 12 - 18 months!
What a difference these bulbs made compared to the stock halogen bulbs in my 2014 BMW 328i! They are definitely brighter and whiter than the stock ones. If they last as long (about 10 years), I would be extremely happy... If you have halogens, these seem to be one of the best you can buy. Updated: Only expect these bulbs to last about 12 months. I bought these bulbs on January 2024 and the first bulb failed July 2025 which was 18 months of daily use! Sylvania warranties these bulbs for 12 months or approximately 100 hours and we exceeded that. Unfortunately, this is the trade off for brighter, whiter halogen bulbs. The physics says it will drastically give you a shorter lifespan. I was hoping that LED bulb technology would get better for non projection halogen light assemblies, but they are not ready by the major manufacturers so these are the best you can get as of this review. I decided to give these bulbs another go since my wife and I like them. It took me about 15 minutes to change both low beam head light bulbs giving me one emergency spare should I lose a bulb on the road at night. ALWAYS wear gloves to prevent oil getting on the bulbs and they will hopefully last as long as possible.

The entire bulbs life, from beginning to failure to replacement
Purchase November 2010, so far so good 7 months later. Light is whiter and brighter then the stock bulbs in my MINI. I had to do a slight adjustment in the leveling of the light, once adjusted the range is definitely better. Having said that, the GE Nighthawk I bought for my wife's car is about just as good, at a fraction of the price. However, I am happy with the Sylvania. Update: 8 months later, one of the headlights burned out. That is with relatively infrequent driving at night, and no DRL on my car. Install was done with new surgical gloves to prevent body oil from contaminating the bulb, so I know it was done properly. I suppose the concerns about premature failure from other reviewers are right. From the packaging, the Ultra is supposed to have 1/4 the life of a standard halogen bulb, I am not sure how many hours it translates to in bulb life. Since they guarantee 12 months of "complete satisfaction" from date of purchase, I will wait for the other bulb to burn out and then call them for a pair of replacement. If you go with these bulbs, you should keep the original packaging and receipt, as you may need it to get the replacement. You may also need an extra set of bulbs to use while these are being replaced as well. Now I have GE Nighthawk on one side, and the Ultra on the other. I will see if Ultra actually makes any difference. Update: 10 months later, the remaining bulb went out. For two months, I had the SilverStar Ultra on one side, the NightHawk on the other and I was able to do some comparisons. The Silverstar has slightly higher color temperature (whiter) than the nighthawk, but the light output is about the same. Since both bulbs are out in 10 months, and they offer a customer satisfaction for one year, I contacted their support line via email. Their responss is prompt and professional, I explained the situation to them, and they offered to replace the bulbs if it was purchased at an authorized retailer. I believe the idea is to exclude purchases from private parties in auction site as the transaction is hard to prove, not to mention fakes. I submitted my receipt from Amazon, which is an authroized retailer, they immediately shipped the new bulbs out via Fedex 2-day service. They also collected info about year and model of my car, apparently, they are doing research on how the car can affect bulb life. So overall, although I wish the bulb life could have been better, they have great output and high color temperature. Visibility at night is certainly better than the stock bulbs. Most importantly, Sylvania is a company that stands behind their products with excellent customer services.

I tried these bulbs on my 2012 MK6 Volkswagen Jetta. The light isn’t white or as bright as LED lights. After using them for a month, I switched to LED lights from Amazon, and the difference is significant. If you're looking for brighter lights, go for LEDs, but make sure to use them only for low beams to avoid blinding oncoming vehicles.

The lights were good . But I was looking for white lights

**2017 Hyundai Tucson** I noticed that the headlight doesn't really appear to be whiter in color. However, I assume that this is because only 20% to 0% to 30% [top, middle, bottom] of it is tinted in blue to recolor the headlight?? But the good news is that it is brighter now, and I can see much better while driving in the rain. I don't even need to use my fog lights anymore to navigate through wet and rainy roads. This is what makes me proud. T he clarity of the light is amazing too. It illuminates the bushes and surroundings very clearly with its wide beam. I will provide further updates when the time comes, because when I use this product on my previous cars it was dimmed at first and then it got brighter overtime.

I really wanted to get into LED for my 2009 Goldwing, but i've tried too many different LED headlightss and had issues that either they seem bright when you install them, but the pattern is so bad that they are so dim at night that they are dangerous, or they just don't install due to fans and cooling on the back that makes them impossible to stay in place. These may be standard incandescent, but they are the best of the best, very bright, and reasonably white in colour, and most importantly they are 100% OEM replacement work in your vehicle just plug and play (while wearing gloves so you don't touch the glass and ruin them)

The low beam improvement in brightness is moderate. I'm now able to see the right curb much better at night time.
