We LOVE Tashi books - just be careful purchasing this one as if you already own the Big Big Big book and the 2nd Big Big book, this one (Great Big Enormous book) is a combination of the previous two. We just purchased the same stories we already had. The title makes it appear as a succession of the 2nd Big Big book, but its not.

My 7 year old can't put it down... All 32 Tashi's stories in one single Volume...
My son's first comment when he got the book was: "Dad! why didn't you buy a hard cover series with better quality paper? I don't want this book to get damaged!", it was love at first sight for my son. We read a lot in our house, we started the boys earlier and they just can't stop reading, I'm not going to stop them. He sleeps with the book, has breakfast with the book, you get the idea. These series are amazing, extremely well written and engaging. I found my oldest son reading it to my 4 year ol', they were having a blast. I remember my son showing this book to his teacher, she was quite amazed to see Jr reading a book this size. The book contains all 32 of Tashi's stories, it's an almost 1000 paper-back page behemoth, yet is the most popular book at home, it cracks me up when I see my son walking around carrying a book that size. Just FYI for conservative parents, this is a book with lots of fantasy stories, dragons, giants, etc, there is a story about Tashi and a Demon, but my son just skipped that one, other than that, it's a great book fo the little ones.

"...it was like this..."
We discovered Tashi on a family trip to Australia, where we bought one book at the airport during a longer-than-expected layover. When we got home we were delighted to be able to order all of the books! Other reviews have noted that these stories are good first chapter books, with more text and fewer pictures, and this description is apt...the pictures:text ratio is about the same as "Magic Tree House" books, which my then 5-year-old son had just begun to read, but the writing is so much better, and the LANGUAGE is so much richer...much less repetitive, and the relationship between the parents and "Jack" is natural and flows well. The incorporation of different folk-tale elements (e.g., the Phoenix, the Baba Yaga, and others) into the singular culture (the Village) that Tashi inhabits makes them approachable and shows their universality. I recommend these books for girls and boys who are moving beyond emergent readers and like a good yarn. Tashi is brilliant, funny, brave and optimistic, which might seem wearing after awhile, but the stories actually have a lot of depth.

The first book my son vanished into his room with.
The BIG BIG BIG book of Tashi was the first 'big' book my son read for pleasure. Not one of those Early Reader type books where it feels like work - Tashi is a really exciting, entertaining and EASY read, complete with drama, characters, pictures and imagination.I would highly recommend Tashi to read to your 5-8 year old, or even better to keep as a treat for that time when they know HOW to read but need practice.Tashi is a truly magical book. If it is your first visit, I envy you the journey.

LOVE this book
LOVE this book! My 6 and 10 year Olds both enjoy the stories, they are quick and engaging, my 6 year old WANTS to read them on her own and they are simple enough that she can yet challenging enough that she isn't bored with them. The value of buying this book vs the smaller tashi books is wonderful! Would deffinatley recommend

Fun Tashi Book!
This book is literally "big" and it is fun for my 9 years old to read. The words aren't to complex, hence I consider it an intermediate book, great for a 3rd grader.

my 2nd grade can't get enough!
Sooooo- I am trying to find books that will inspire my second grader to read regularly. He struggles a bit with reading but loved the idea of a gnome and adventures and tall tales. I will admit that we are only through the 5th chapter, (page 150 of 900) but my son is begging to read. He wants to read this book on his own and I believe that is because of all the great drawings throughout and he especially loves when I read to him. I would say MISSION ACCOMPLISHED. I have already emailed the school librarian and told her to be on the look out for this great book.
