A very good and economical solution for folks who have trouble sitting into or rising out of a chair.
My elderly father has severe arthritis in his knees and rising from his recliner was very difficult, not to mention, painful. The EZ Rise works very well and has proved to be a great solution! It's sturdy and aids him significantly. It takes a degree of acclimation but he gets a lot of help rising from ( and lowering himself into, for that matter ) his recliner. I personally tested the device before I gave it to him to use and found the cushion slightly inadequate ... I knew if I were using it for extended periods of time, it would probably become uncomfortable. But my Dad only weighs 143 lbs. and even though he spends 4-6 hours at a stretch sitting on it, he finds it comfortable and hasn't complained in the three weeks he has been using it daily. By contrast, I weigh 200# and, so, if it were for me, I would enhance the cushion. The unexpected benefit of the seat is his improved posture and sitting position which I'm sure will benefit him long term. The only negative issue is size. The seat would work nicely in dining or maybe even side chairs (its an over-sized device, to be sure) but my Dad's recliner is at least 8-10 inches wider than the EZ Rise. Sometimes he finds himself slipping off one side or the other or the whole seat shifts because the recliner is vinyl and allows for the apparatus to move. But it works so well, otherwise, that I intend to test a few solutions to this problem... to figure it out myself. I expect that the answer is to secure it with straps. I mention the issue as a point of information, in the interest of full disclosure, but it would not prevent me from recommending it to others. Overall, it has been a very good and economical solution to his particular mobility issues.

I like this helper and am still getting used to how ...
BE CAREFUL! I read the instructions and set the weight well below what I weigh. I am a tall, heavy woman who has Muscular Dystrophy. My feet and lower legs are paralyzed. I wear AFO braces in order to walk with the assistance of a walker. The first time I sat on the HD EZ Rise Power Seat and leaned slightly forward, it scared the daylights out of me because it snapped up so fast and tossed me right out of my seat. Thankfully, I had a friend standing in front of me to help me stay balanced and on my feet. As explained in the instructions, it works in a chair with arms. It could work on a flat, solid surface if you don't dare lean to one side or the other as that will engage the lifting mechanism. It does not work in a chair with a padded seat with no arms and in fact could be dangerous as it slips to the side and you could fall to the floor (I found this out in front of a crowd at a restaurant). This scenario is cautioned in the instructions, but I thought if I was careful and sat very still I could manage it, so it was my fault. All in all, I like this helper and am still getting used to how it feels when it starts to lift and using it in various environments.

Stand without help.
I use this on a daily bases. If I did not have this seat I would be stuck setting in one place until I had help to get up. Not any more. This seat has given me the freedom to get up and do the things I need to do without asking for assistance from family to help me up to do what I needed. It's like freedom again for me. I would recommend this product to anyone who needs assistance getting up out of low chairs. It's a little push in the right direction. Lol!

Obviously Intended as a Joke...or Torture Device
Purchased this item for my wife who had just had knee replacement surgery and was recovering at home. This "thing" could not help a bunny rabbit sit up, much less a full grown person. I sat on It to test it (250 lbs), and, it did not even keep up with me when I stood up slowly. Additionally, it pushed back down so easily that if I (or my wife with the bad knee) had lost my balance, it would not have prevented me from falling back to the seat. Also, it is designed with a metal plate which ends in the middle of the seat, creating a hard, punishing ridge across the middle. I doubt anyone would voluntarily sit on this thing for more than a minute or two without pain. Completely useless. Just wish there was less than one star to give it.

A Great Concept, but Disappointing Performance
What a great idea! Sadly, the product just doesn't work as it should. I've had two of them fail and break, each within a month of the first use. :( Actually, I've been through three of these ... the first one had a problem with the cylinder that makes the whole thing operate. It had a defective bearing on the end, and could not lock into position. The concept here seems valid, but the execution at the manufacturing level is flawed. The "seat" is essentially a large piece of what appears to be nylon, and it's covered with the nicely-padded cushion. The problem arises in that the white nylon base piece is just too darn thin. The second power seat's nylon internal seat cracked and split in less than a month. Hoping for the best, I got a replacement unit from the seller, and dang it, the third power seat did exactly the same thing in less time. The base seat inside is just too thin. It's eventually going to crack, I fear, so I'm not trying a fourth one of these. I'm very disappointed in this power seat, as I'd had great hopes for it. But lasting only a month at this price? Nope. Save your money and buy a power lift chair recliner instead. Seriously. Badly flawed and not recommended. Sorry. :(

It needs improvements
I got this for a relative. It was great at first, but after a while it hurt his bottom. He stopped using it.

this product is still better value than ones that I could garner here
Even though I am in South Africa and had to wait and pay extremely high import tax, this product is still better value than ones that I could garner here. The product seems to be exactly what we needed for my mom, and I'm sure that it will help her greatly
