Superb!
i don't hunt but i'm fascinated by tigers, and of course man-eating tigers would elicit even more interest from most. i now know something about hunting tigers and, more importantly, why a man such as Jim Corbett, who grew up around and grew to love tigers, took on the job of tracking and killing these scourges of rural India. he explains that tigers are not natural man-eaters but because of illness, infected wounds or damaged/broken teeth, a relative few have been forced to kill the least challenging prey... humans. a wonderful book, giving insight into a 'slice of life' hitherto unknown to me and the great majority of readers, i would imagine. .

Classic Tale Well Told
This classic book by hunter and conservationist Jim Corbett chronicles his efforts to rid an Indian province of man-eating tigers in the early 20th Century. Told with a great understanding of, and empathy for, his prey, Corbett also proves an able writer, painting vivid pictures of the Indian forest and his hunts. For a more global view of the times and Indian culture, from a 21st Century perspective, see No Beast So Fierce by Dane Huckelbridge, which focuses solely on the Champawat Tiger (a single chapter of Corbett's book).

First rate. This is a great and truly accurate account of one man's adventures hunting man eatting Tigers in a part of the world which seems so distant now. Totally enjoyed this book and highly recommend it to all the shooters and hunters who enjoy this type of book.

Must read
It's very easy read. I finished it very fast. You will travel with the author to the dangerous Northern Indian jungles, where magnificent tigers are hunting.

Spellbinding
Extremely well written and gripping. The author goes into great detail in explaining and describing tiger behavior, the beliefs, and customs of the rural folks and the terrain in the area. Was put-off that some of the tigers were killed for sport. However, extremely well written -- Great eloquence and flow that literally takes you back to the past.

Awesome storytelling adventure
If you enjoy non-fiction adventure stories about hunting man-eating tigers across India, this is THE book to get. I’d recommend anyone to read a Jim Corbett book at-least once in their lifetime. The way he describes his surroundings while hunting makes easy to imagine how terrifying it must of been to live among tigers that prey on human. What I appreciate the most about his writing is how much he empathizes with both Tiger and man alike.

Great historical account of hunting man eating tigers
Fascinating glimpse of history in northern India when maneating tigers roamed the jungles near the tibetian border. Some of these tigers killed hundreds of people and this is an account of an Englishman's hunt of several of them.

Awesome reading
I first read this book in my school days, also its sister books "More Man Eaters of Kumaon and The Man Eating Leopard of Rudraprayag" to name but two. This author is one of those who can transport you into his world and what a world! Hunting man eating tigers and leopards, on foot, on the ground. sometimes sitting up all night waiting for a chance of a shot. The snow flakes among you may be horrified by his shooting what is now a really endangered species, but when you read on you find he is responsible for the dispatch of the Tiger with the Guinness world record for human kills, that is 436, yes you read that correctly, Four Hundred and Thirty Six human beings. During which he nearly became the tigers 437th victim. His descriptions of the jungle and its inhabitants both animal and human are exemplary, bringing you into a past world, that is dwindling into the recesses of our memories, the action takes place in what was colonial India, at the end of the 1800s and early to mid 1900s . It is one of those books that could really be described as a "walk on the wild side". The story of "Robin" will bring tears to your eyes. I have read these books in both print and now electronically so many times over the years, with every fresh reading I find some small detail that I had missed before, such is the way this book consumes you, if you pardon the pun.Jim Corbett is long gone, but his legacy are these and his other books, your reading will I hope further that legacy to a new generation of readers, who will also come to understand the power of nature and of human nature.
