Did not like it
This book is very lacking. I'm Chinese and my children are biracial; although I'm also an American, my side of the family is the typical immigrant family. I do love dim sum though, and I like the back of the book where it explains the origin of it; but the board book itself is very mediocre. The illustrations are amateurish and the whole thing has super short sentences (see photos for reference) that really doesn't tell you anything about the social dining concept of it. I will be returning this.

Surprising Hit
Got this book a month or so in an Amazon book subscription box for my 17 month old. I got the subscription so we could get some books that may not be on the radar, and this is definitely one that fits the bill. I do want him to have exposure to other cultures and we eat A LOT of all types of Asian food, so I figured this would be a good one to keep in our box.It arrived and I was a little underwhelmed. As another reviewer mentioned, it doesn't really explain a ton about dim sum (in a kid friendly way in the body of the book). The sentences are really short and the book is quite short, even for a book for a toddler. All of that said, my son LOVES this book. He gets to select his own books at bedtime (out of maybe 15-20 available in his room), and he is currently pulling it out on a nightly basis as one of the top 3 books we must read...again...and again...and again. ;) I'm not sure what he loves about it, but he does. I am considering getting others from this author if only so I can read about something other than dim sum every night of the week. ha, ha! Who knows if he's grasping anything about dim sum, but without a doubt, he loves this book. The book is probably 2-3 stars from me, but I'm not a child. ;) He'd give it a 6!

adorable and colorful
This little Accelerated Reader book is enjoyed by my first and second grade students. It is very colorful. The illustrations are appealing to young children. The text is slight but understandable for young children. It gives them an introduction to Chinese culture.

Surprised they love it!
When I got this book, I was disappointed. But when my boys brought it to me to read, they were entranced. A meal with lots of little dishes??? That sounds so fun to them! It also encouraged my daughter to try more foods. It's super simple, but that keeps the message simple and easy to understand. It's now one of their favorite books.

Nice If this is what your looking for
Recieved in a monthly book box amazin sends me. It sits on our shelf hardly read because um well its a book about dim sum amd we are not asian and my daughter is almost 2. So she cant connect to it lol i lile the idea that they chose the book to maybe try and expose kids to new cultures which is a good thing... but the subject is not appropraite age wise. Its a nice book if its what your looking for tho! And i actually do love dim sum personally lol droool. But 2 stars off for amazons poor book choice. Send us a more genral cultural book instead.

Great!
I really liked the simplistic explanation of what going out for dim sum would be like. Nice colors and drawings, good size font. A very nice detailed explanation of dim sum and its cultural significance on the last two pages, clearly directed at the parent. Really enjoyed this book.

My Kid Loves this Book and Eats More Food!
We first borrowed this board book from the local library for our 1-year-old baby. He loved it, and would eat more food while reading this book. After one year, I saw this book on Amazon and bought it for my little 2-year-old toddler. He still loves it and reads it again and again! Now, he recognizes the characters and says their names. He wants us to tell him more about the dim sum dishes. This book is very helpful and delightful, and I hope the author Grace Lin will produce more board books.

one of our child's favorites
at first read through this book isn't much, just a few pages of dim sum dishes (one of which I don't think is a real dish... fried shrimp?). however our child took to the drawings or something and now loves this book. it's very simple but as long as kid is entertained, we have no complaints.

Lovely simple story about eating dim sum
My daughter LOVES this book. Simple text, beautiful illustrations, just a really lovely book about a Chinese family going out for dim sum and the different dishes they pick. We spend ages on the first double page spread which is an illustration of lots of different ingredients and their names and we play "can you find the soy sauce/ scallions/ taro/ ginger/ teapot..." Great for vocabulary building. Also good to see Chinese girls represented in books just doing normal family stuff.

Short and sweet
My daughter is half Chinese and I wanted her to learn about dim sum since we can't safely go out for it. She is 13months and loves it! I especially like how it explains the origin of dim sum at the end.
