Great quick read & helpful for IfSimply
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking to podcast.A few highlights that I didn't know:1. Launch with 3-5 podcasts2. Have your next two to three months of shows done before launch (gives a buffer)3. You have 8 weeks to hit the new and noteworthy list.Items Missing from this book:1. How to choose the right category to maximize exposure2. How to name your podcast (Do you use your brand or use SEO optimized keywords)All in all, well worth the read.A few additional tips I have learned:1. Launch 5 episodes to start (when someone subscribes, that is 5 downloads. That means 10 people = 50 downloads). Itunes uses downloads as a key indicator of success.2. For the first 7 days, launch a podcast a day (after your first 5 on the first day). This helps people trust that you are going to be there for them. After the first week, you can ramp down to your normal schedule (i.e. once or twice a week).3. Do not buy ratings on itunes (itunes gives higher rank to more active users. Fake accounts may hurt you. I didn't do this, but know folks who did)4. Choose a category that has lower competition and use SEO fiendly keywords. This will help people find you in organic search.5. Do a video podcast and also strip the audio out and do a separate audio podcast. This gives you twice the exposure! -MEGATIP: Be sure to post the audio version in a separate category (that way you can rank in two charts and get more listeners).6. Keep your podcast focused and consistent, but feel free to vary the format. You could do interviews every other week and just you talking on the off weeks.7. Be sure you have some major differentiator. What makes your podcast different than the others in your category?Hope this helps!Keith GriffisCo-founder and podcaster for ifSimply

I felt like from the first page of the book I was ...
Basically an infomercial for his pay websites, courses, etc. I felt like from the first page of the book I was being bombarded with a sales pitch. Additionally, the podcastlaunchaudio.com "free audio download" of the book, that is supposed to come with the written text, is a dead/down site.Pointless. Don't waste your money on this, or other so-called "books" by this huckster. Ugh.

Author only give resources to other links and videos.
The author's podcast I'm sure is very successful, but this book left too many open ends. Every chapter was either, "for more information, check out this link or go to that link". Most of the information is basic and minimal that you can find on google. There's nothing about how to conduct an interview, what type of questions to ask or how to prepare for your interview, or should you give your guest interview questions to go over, etc...He gives basic information such as, all you need is a mic, a computer, and a mixer which is optional. So basic, that I knew this.I'm disappointed that I invested my money into this, and was only directed to check out other links to get the rest of the information. He gives the basic answers to WHAT, but not HOW to. For example: Chapter 7 - The perfect podcast launch strategy. before even going to the steps, he says sign up for the free masterclass to learn the perfect podcast launch strategy. Then he goes off to basic steps. Again he tells you what to do, but not how to do. The audiobook feels like a podcast trying to sell something. Here's another example: Monetizing. He starts out giving a few quotes, basic information, and then goes off to say to learn the many ways to monetize the podcast launch is to check out the monthly income report, then gives a link .I understand it's okay to provide additional links to go to, but I purchased this book for information and felt ripped off from the information I was seeking.

I was somewhat disappointed with contents of book
I have listened to JLD's podcast EOFire off and on for some time. I consider him a definite pro in the field. So I was disappointed when I found the book to be short on valuable content. At times throughout the book felt like an informercial more than an how-to.Having said that, the book does refer the reader to a series of free videos. Unfortunately I haven't had time to view those so I can't opine on them. But I would have liked to have some of the video content in the actual book rather than having to view a separate set of videos.I'm giving this four starts because I suspect the value in the videos will be more that adequate. But not five because the info is absent from the book. The most valuable items was the list of podcast distribution sites. It's a solid list to RSS my content. But again, even the host site discussion was a sales pitch for a service for which JLD is paid a commission. I'm probably going to use SoundCloud but I'll check out his recommendation.Overall the book was helpful. It was very short because the bulk of the content is in the free videos. I'm definitely better off for it but it could have been better for me if it included the outsourced video content within the book.Worth buying. Just not a five star experience.

Too many calls to action
Not sure how to rate this as it appears to be a compilation of web pages put together to make a booklet (not a paperback as I would expect a paperback to look). Most pages contain hyperlinks to click on for free information from the eofire website run by J. L. Dumas. No doubt there is a lot of useful information for a novice to learn from but I think a lot (if not all) the information is available on his website if you sign up for the various offers. He has obviously worked hard and compiled huge amounts of information so in fairness he has the qualifications and a track record to back up the value of his words.Unfortunately for me, I found there are far too many links to follow and sign up for extra content. Every link takes you to other pages with further links and there comes a time when too much knowledge becomes too much information. It actually turned me off as I couldn't get into the booklet without wondering what I was missing by not signing up or following the suggested links. I know this is how he makes his money but I expected a book of information not a booklet of hyperlinks with email sign ups to find the information. No doubt J.L Dumas has made a very successful business in the podcast industry and he has great advice to offer but this is not a nice book to read as a stand alone guide to podcasting.I'm also a bit put off by his last page asking for reviews on Amazon ("even if you did not buy the book from Amazon") in return for "an incredible bonus video". I'm leaving the review but I'm not emailing him to say so as I really don't think I need another bonus video.I would suggest looking at his website instead of buying the booklet, even if you buy the booklet the chances are you will visit the website anyway so save yourself a few quid and go straight there. Now that's a useful call to action!

A Great Guide to Starting a Podcast
This book took me from "oh, I'd quite like to do a podcast, but it seems way out of my league, I wouldn't know where to start!" to "here's my podcast, hope you enjoy it!"Dumas breaks down the process into really simple steps, recommending software and hardware to help you so that anyone, no matter their experience level, can get started on a podcast. As with most things, the learning process really begins once you get started, and this book is a great guide to help you with that. The only thing I didn't like about this book is that it seems to focus on starting a podcast with the goal of getting millions of listeners, rather than just doing it for fun - but if you're not in it for that side of it, you can just ignore that part. And it's very inspiring to hear from someone who has been so successful with podcasting.

There is no useful information in here that isn't already common sense
I ordered this as I am starting a podcast project as part of my marketing job. There is no useful information in here that isn't already common sense, and you must go to the video tutorials for further insight. You don't need to buy the book to do this. The tone of voice is patronising, and is based around trying to get as many hits on certain websites as possible. The book doesn't even include page numbers in its table of contents, so good luck if there's a specific podcast topic you're trying to find.If you're looking for meaty reference material about podcasts including well researched information instead of a personal account, look elsewhere.

Incomplete!
I didn’t find this book useful at all. Easier to go onto YouTube and search for tutorials. Not recommended.

I understand that some things are better demonstrated in this medium
JLD's advice is sound, but he often refers throughout the book to online videos he has created. I understand that some things are better demonstrated in this medium, but I feel by constantly referring to online materials, there was very little value in the book. I would've liked to have seen diagrams and pictures used more to at least partially explain the steps the book was describing.
