Basic Math and Pre-Algebra: 1,001 Practice Problems For Dummies (+ Free Online Practice)

MEEEEEEEH. It is a really, really far stretch to call this book "Basic Math & Pre-Algebra for Dummies". It does not teach any math at all - it simply provides practice problems which, I have to say, are not helpful if the Math Dummy in question does not know how to solve them. I do not, and bought the book so that I could increase my (admittedly) awful math skills in advance of the GREs. One of the reasons I struggle with math is that I've never had a teacher who could tell my why math works. They simply say that it does, and this book takes a similarly frustrating approach. I don't foresee a lot of learning to be done with this one, although I guess it could provide good practice for those out there who are... not Math Dummies.

In case you don't know what Dyscalculia is, it's a math disability that interferes with your ability to retain information related to math. This book is written in a way to help you understand. It explains it in a way that helps you retain the information. Not to mention, there's lots of humor which helps break up math anxiety. I would definitely recommend this book. I don't feel so out of the loop when it comes to math, anymore.

This book is frustrating. Even though it says 1,001 practice problems, it should state that there are no instructions step-by-step to follow. Books for Dummies are a disappointment. Now, it turns out that I have to buy another book named Basic Math & Pre-Algebra. They don't tell which books to buy from 1 to 10 or 15. This is the first one-star review I give. I definitely would NOT recommend it to anybody who is trying to remember any math.

I have been away from math and done absolutely failure work in school years ago, and, wanting to understand how to do electronics equations, I found Algebra 1 was a little too advanced for me, so, I chose this and the workbook titles and they have immensely helped me understand math in a way I've never understood it. Great book as it takes what you learn in the workbook and gives you plenty of practice to solidify the knowledge you learn. I would definitely recommend this book and the Workbook for anyone wanting and struggling to learn Algebra.

Going back to school after 40 years is not easy!I knew I would never excel, let alone pass, any required college math courses without some help, which led to the purchase of this workbook.Love that there are so many problems in the book and online to solve.Love the way they go in order and progress from laughably easy to, "What are they asking?"Love that get to write all over a book ;)4 stars because my elderly brain has had a wee bit of trouble understanding some of the 'helps', and therefore some of the problems and had to Google more things than I would like.Overall, I give it an A-

Need more.details on how to.break.down math.problems.and there a few methods to do.percentage problems I do not recommend this book to bland and not enough explanations.

I was hoping for examples of step by step problem solving. Wasn't what I was looking for. You had to look at the answer but still nothing explaining when or why a certain step was taken.
