7644 Cooking Grates for Weber Series Grills, Weber Q100 and Q1000 Series Grills, Stainless Steel, Q1200, Q1400 Gas Grill

I had long ago stopped using my Weber Q100 due to my dislike of the cast iron grate. Too heavy and a headache to clean. On a whim recently I did a search for alternatives and this stainless steel model caught my attention. I've used it a couple of times and it works great. It's a perfect fit, weighs less (a little over 6 lbs. vs. almost 10 lbs.), solidly made, heats up well, and cleans easily with a scrape and wash. Because it's flat and not ridged you might not get the same grill marks as before. When washing you may want to stick with steel or copper scouring pads because the sharp edges of the grate will quickly shred most sponges and fiber pads. Otherwise, I'm glad that I'm able to use my Weber again without the drawbacks I experienced before.

This is well made and easy to clean, but the ceramic coated iron grates cook the food a little better. I would recommend getting the ceramic coated grates similar to the original grates for that added crispness. It also seems like I have a lot more flare ups with these. They are totally flat and do not have the grooves in them.

I had high hopes for this product, but now I do not want it. It gets really dirty, in a different way each time. We cook small amounts for one or two people at a time. It cooks so fast, it doesn’t cook thoroughly, it just burns the outside. Not worth the high price. Very disappointed.

This grill fits my Weber Q perfectly, It heats up very quickly so you can sear those hamburgers.One thing I didn't think about when I bought it was how to clean it. Well you brush it off then take it to the kitchen sink for a little SOS pad action.

I love the fact that there’s no Teflon coating to chip or peel off. The cook star grill plate is a perfect replacement. I’ve had two Weber cast iron grills with the Teflon coating and both had the coating peel off even though I was very careful about cleaning them. This grill will not leave stripes on your food like cast iron but it retains heat well.

The “stainless steel” grate began rusting, almost immediately. Every time it is used, we have to clean off the rust before cooking. I would recommend that you purchase a regular cast iron grate and avoid this item.
