They thought of everything! Great toy!
I bought this for my 2 year old son. He has not stopped playing with it since I put it together a few hours ago. Assembly is simple. It would have been simpler if I wasn't one of those stupid girls that doesn't know how to use power tools. Took about 45 minutes, putting it together by myself without a drill. My 2 year old climbing over me and the parts trying to use his "tools" slowed down the process as well. :) There are few if any pre drilled holes in the parts. The screws that come with it go easily through the plastic without pre drilled holes. Might have been purposely done that way to prevent stripping the plastic? Not sure. The bench itself is great with a drawer under the main part of the tabletop, a large cubby for the "wood", a cabinet with a cubby underneath and above. The plastic jars for the screws slide into grooves, pegs attach on the back wall to hang tools and there is a working light above the work bench. The vise grip isn't great and it frustrates my son because it doesn't tighten very well on the "wood" but I think that will be fine once he gets a little older. The bench is sturdy and I think will last a long time. The vacuum while a cute touch is just a nuisance. It falls off and my son has pretty much ignored it. The tools that come with the bench are awesome. It includes a hammer, screwdriver, drill with 2 bits that work, wrench, pliers and a saw that makes a sawing sound when it is used on the fake wood. The wood pieces are foam, puzzle like pieces that have a wood grain. You can put the screws through them with the drill and cut them with the saw. My son has loved that the most. The light above the bench uses 3 AAA batteries and the drill needs 2 AA batteries. I had the AA on hand but had to pillage through my remotes to find some AAA's. Rookie mistake- you would think I didn't have another kid and go through all of this before, granted it was 12 years ago but whatever! It was worth paying the extra money for a quality toy that I think my son will enjoy for a long time.

We love Step2!
This is absolutely the best toy we have bought in a long time! When purchased for our 2 yr old we figured it would be something for him to grow into the age appropriate time frame and he has enjoyed it completely from the moment he has played with it. It is sturdy, solid and just the right size and height for him to reach the working light. All tools are chunky and easily handled by him, however since he is still a little young I do not let him have the screwdriver on his own only because of his running around with toys. He loves the hammer, drill and the look like wood pieces. It's a learning toy as well as an enjoyment. And even fun for Mom and Dad to help build the cute projects. We had only one issue with the drill and the company immediately replaced upon notice. Great purchase and happy customers! Thank you Step2!

Great toy workshop!!
We bought this toy workshop for our three year old grandson who loves pretending to build and fix things! It's very sturdy and will last for many years! I am especially pleased that this has so many storage areas since my grandson has alot of "tools". This workshop includes some basic tools but we recommend getting a separate package of tools. I ordered a toy measuring tape separately because I knew my grandson would want one just like his Daddy's. My husband spent about an hour putting this together...not too difficult. Unfortunately while he was putting a piece into the unit, he broke the handle on the bench vise. I immediately called the 800 number for the step 2 company and they took my contact information and mailed out a new part...free!! It was that simple. I am extremely pleased with their customer service!! I highly recommend this product!!

Great customer service
First off, the quality of the product is very good. It is sturdy and solid and my little guy likes it fine. The other reviews cover the good points very well so i will jump to my issues. 1. I did not get any stickers with the kit. If you look at the photos there are many cosmetic stickers that give it the feel of a real work bench. I do not know if they do not come with them as I do not see them listed in the instruction manual but the photo on the box and the photos I see all have the stickers and ours does not--its just smooth plastic. 2. The over head light interior house came broken. Not a big deal-the light still works and I ended up super gluing the broken pieces back together. Overall I would recommend this product but I feel a little short changed in not receiving what the photos showed. My little guy does not notice a thing and plays with it all the same. Update: There were 2 sections of instructions and I now see there is a b/w photo of the stickers that were supposed to come with the bench. I will give another update after I call them and let them know there were no stickers included with the kit. Update #2 on 1-19-13. I am changing to 4 stars. Just received the stickers after contacting customer service. They were very helpful and friendly and I got the stickers in a few days even though she said it could be up to 10. Highly recommend now-good job Step 2!

Very Nice and Sturdy just as one would expect from Step 2
I bought this for my 2 yr. old Grandson. He will get many yrs. of use out of this. He loves it. The pieces of wood to build with are a big plus to this work bench. It has plenty of tools that are safe, not sharp. The light is adorable. The drawers on front are not actually drawers, it is a big door for storage that appears to be drawers. I think this was a big plus as the drawers may have been a bit sticky to pull in and out. He loves the vacuum on the side, this was a big hit for sure! BTW don't waste your money on the more expensive certain hardware store one. My grandson pulled off one of the stickers on the screwdriver and guess whose name was underneath it? Yep Step 2 makes it for them. Only they charge twice the price. This is a great toy that will last for years.

Warped and Difficult to put together.
Pieces came warped. Very difficult to put together. Not happy at all with this product and will no longer be purchasing from this brand.

Not well made
There is no holes to were it’s supposed to have the skrew out in, the instructions are not easy to read unless you just like going off half picture instructions. Looks good once it’s put together but horrible instructions!!!

great toy, my son loves it.
this product may seem a little expensive but it is well worth it. it is made of thick durable plastic, like the toys we played with when we were kids. it only took me about 45 minutes to put together and although the pictures in the instructions were a little on the small side, you could still follow them well enough to get the job done. the tools that come with this product are also very well made. my 3 year old has beaten them up pretty good by throwing them around and stepping on them and such; and they still work. just one little tip, this tool bench comes with plywood colored foam pieces so your son/daughter can assemble them. keep the paper because i cannot remember how to put the darn things together half the time. i laminated the foam piece assembly sheet and stapled it to the left of the tool bench (opposite the shop-vac). this thing is so study i think i'll keep it for my nephew to play with he gets a little older and my son gets board of it.
