Best Nonfiction Children’s Book
I love this book. I bought it for my third grade classroom. The author narrates the information as if it were fiction, but it’s really a nonfiction book about hippos. The illustrations add a bit of suspense and imaginary possibilities. I used many of the sentences as mentor sentences for my grammar lessons. After putting the book on the class shelf, I noticed many of my students chose to read it and reread it during independent reading time. I highly recommend this book for third - fifth grade classroom libraries and for any teacher looking for a read-aloud book for any grade level.

My new favorite informational book!
This books is fantastic. It’s a well written informational book that kids love. It’s perfect to use as a mentor text for teaching nonfiction writing. The author uses vivid adjectives and verbs, questions, and descriptive vocabulary. The illustrations are the best!

My daughter likes hippos. I have been teaching her her letters and when we got to the letter h I purchased a few books about hippos and this one was her favorite. It has detailed descriptions about hippo behaviour written for an elementary child. The book is informative and sometimes humorous. This is a great introduction for any child, and I learned some things also, about hippos.

My grandson LOVES hippos! He watches the videos of Fiona (Cincinnati Zoo) over and over, so I hoped this book would be a hit and it absolutely is. Roarrrrr!
