Does the ink show through on the other side of the page, on ordinary lined paper?

No, the ink does not bleed onto the other side of the page. I have written on both sides of a paper and have had no problem. The Pilot Precise P-500 is my preferred pen to use. The point is very fine. In fact I purchase them in boxes of 12 and think they are worth the price. I hope I have answered your question satisfactorily.

What's the difference between the P-500 and V5?

The V5 writes 100% smoother for .05 tip and smaller. The P500 has a longer thinner needle point, so if you write harder, the needle point is a lot easier to bend or make misshapen. If you like to (or need to) write small, the P500 is good for that. This is just my opinion as someone who owns enough pens to fill a pen store (including the 2 styles mentioned here) :)
