Take one group of rabid fan girls with tenuous grips on reality, toss out all rules of proper social behavior, mix them together in a basement with more twisted anime parodies and allusions than you can shake a shtick at, and what do you get? Well, besides a recipe for disaster, if borderline delusional Kyoko Todayama is in what passes for charge, you get the Astronomy Club, where mayhem rules and the wall between the real world and total fantasy shatters at least once every five minutes! And as if things weren't wild enough, let's throw in a "boys love" manga fanatic who always seems to end up in her underwear, a maid on a secret mission, a ruthless arch enemy whose goal is to have the club disbanded, and a CAT as the faculty adviser! And then there's Itsuki, who inexplicably still thinks this is a serious astronomy club. To be fair, some of the members DO seem to be robots/aliens and/or from outer space. One thing's for certain though: The Student Council will most definitely NOT approve of what happens when the Insane-O-Meter redlines and freaky fan girls run wild in EBITEN!

Pretty solid anime
Got it as a blind purchase, and was not disappointed. Granted its sub only, and the ending is a little.... odd.... but it's worth it

Ebiten
This was not bad over all. The art was good. The story was not much there. It seem to be over the place. I should have done my home work on this anime. Good thing it did not sent me back to much. Since it was a use one.

It's my own darn fault, really: I read the back, took it to mean that it was like The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzimiya but with more cute characters, and bought it. It's not. I can honestly say this is some of the weirdest-yet-mundane crap I have ever watched, and I've seen some weird crap.

Ebiten
There's not much of a story here until I saw the anime again, but there's a basis for it. This anime is about a soon to be disbanded Astronomy club. A character named Itsuki Noya joins his high school's Astronomy club only to find out that there are weird girls in the club that don't do anything but mess around. When I saw this anime, I had no idea what I was getting into. I thought this anime's genre was a slice of life, but I was completely wrong. Ebiten is a comedy, parody, harem, ecchi, and fan service anime. My first piece of advice in the beginning of the story, you might be befuddled on what's happening because of the randomness, but try to focus on each character's personality and on the comedy instead. You might find that focusing on their personality will make the anime easier to follow and funnier. Each episode contains a parody. Ebiten references a lot of anime such as Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, K-On, and many more. Some of which I have never even heard of. There are some scenes of nudity if you are wondering. Also, the show does talk about astronomy, but it's somewhat not the main focus. There's a part of the anime where the anime does get really interesting and romance starts to brew, but I won't say where though to prevent spoilers.Overall, I thought this anime was somewhat funny. There are some scenes of the anime that I found funny and other parts I did not. Once I got past the lack of story development, I started liking the anime more. There's a lot of overused clichés in this anime, but I didn't mind it. The unexpected randomness made it a little bit better. It still could've done better with the story development.

Painful
I have watched this several times, this last time with over a year away from it, and I still can only classify it as painful because it came so close to good that I could taste the development, but then had it not make the move to being good, let alone great. It is like a wonderful cake that just got over baked, and the layers were then trimmed down, iced, and served. Yes, it is sweet but it is also something burned.A large segment of the story was a serious story about human control over another human, but they bumped that with "fan service" that was not needed, thus making the serious story almost a joke. The main characters were too young for the roles that they played. Trying to mix in mind control, exploitation, love, and being at the age that you are beginning to wear the persona of an adult with not enough time and experience to do it right, well, to me, that was going too far in the wrong way, and like some people who drown, it means they went too far and could not recover. Two out of five, and that is generous, mostly on the artwork and visual effects, not the story, not the music or dialog, just well done but inappropriate artwork.Sorry, if the characters were older, it might have worked better, if they had not gone too far into fan service when the story did not require it, then I might have gone for a higher rating, but this must misfired.
