NASA Mars Rovers Manual: 1997-2013 (Sojourner, Spirit, Opportunity and Curiosity) (Owners' Workshop Manual)

The book is a delight, but Amazon shipped me a damaged copy, or didn't pack it well enough to protect it during shipping. For $35 I'd have expected a book without scratches on the cover, bent corners and smudges. "Haynes" might cause buyers to think this is a rather cursory overview but the book covers all the "Mars Rover" programs in great detail and a great selection of photos and graphics. Accessible to younger readers and a good book to share between parents and kids with an interest in space exploration and science. I work in aerospace, I was impressed with the discussions of the science experiements on the rovers. Enjoyed the narrative on the development programs, a good insight into how these Mars missions went from an idea to a Rover driving around on the surface of Mars. Great book if you can get Amazon to send you one that they haven't damaged.

This has great detail on all the Mars Rovers. I was hoping for more on Curiosity than it has which is why I gave it 4 not 5 stars. I really wanted more detailed plans and images of Curiosity since I am building a scale model robot of it. This has some good info but it is not covered in as much depth as are some of the earlier Rovers. It is a Hardback and beautifully printed but could use more color photos.

No schematics but a lot to learn about the Mars rover.

Good story, great details and pictures. Reads like an adventure story in many ways. Could have a bit more details on curiosity, especially around the thoughts on design as was written for the earlier rovers. Net net, well worth getting

This is a fantastic book covering the unmanned exploration of the red planet, including the early Mariners, Viking and the rovers. It contains many photos showing construction and packaging of the spacecraft. I was also surprised to see very recent photos from Curiosity. This is a must have for anyone interested in Mars exploration!

Fun Book

This book is great. It is very detailed, very well designed and implemented. I bought it as companion to a Lego toy about the same project and it was fantastic.

I bought this book for my nephew who is interested in NASA projects. He found the details very informative and he enjoyed reading the book.

quite a fan of Haynes manuals, traditionally for the disassembly and rebuild instructions for a vast range of cars, useful to have one for my car. now they've branched out and lightened the mood with these manuals which cover cool equipment from the real world as well as the fictional one.this book covers the four main recent mars rovers by nasa. not sure if terry davies is the artist still but there are some nice illustrations, and lots of photographs and interesting articles. not a rebuild guide but gives a lot of background information, which makes a fascinating read. these rovers were over engineered deliberately, to cover all eventualities, but with a bit of luck, most of them outlived their original purpose. I believe spirit and opportunity still do some useful science, and as far as I am aware curiosity is still turning the rocks over looking for creepy crawlies :) so this book is very current.I bought this second hand for a good price and cant fault it. there was some sign of damp in the last few pages but now ive proppoed ithe book up, open, to air for a couple of days, and it is fine. very pleased with this buy, would visit this seller again. thanks.

This manual collects together an enormous amount of information on the Mars Rovers and their mission - quicker than going onto the Internet to find things individually. If you are developing resources for use in science education on Space, as I do, then this is an excellent source.
