Is year-round Grass-fed the same as 100% grassfed, why does every other brand say 100%, and y'all don’t?

The “100% Grass-fed Claim Whey” is very popular and serves as a beneficial red flag for the consumer when it comes to many brands. There are several interpretations such as, the product only contains what the seller is claiming to be grass-fed whey, thus “100% grass-fed whey”.

It’s also common for brands to source whey from farms that put the animals through a “grass-fed finishing process.” Due to lack of regulation on this claim, technically, if the animal meets a finishing requirement (a certain number of days on pasture), the milk can be sold as “100% Grass-Fed Milk”. To most consumers, however, (and the brands understand this), the “100% grass-fed” claim is to say, “this product is from cows who roam on pasture and only eat grass – buy me.”

AGN Roots Grass-Fed Whey sources from farms that are Animal Welfare Approved certified by A Greener World, which guarantees their “entire life on pasture,” thus we say “year-round.” Our cows always have access and a line of sight to food, water, bedding, pasture, and each other. There are no dairy farms in existence that limit their herd’s diet to ONLY pasture grasses (100%), as this would be wildly irresponsible and dangerous for the animals. During the cow’s life, there are specific nutrients provided to the animal to ensure their bodies are ready for critical stages of their lives like late gestation and or early lactation.
  
During these critical stages, this silage is still grass from our farms; HOWEVER, instead of “dry” grass, this is “high-moisture” high-quality silage (cut Grass) packed for fermentation (to make dense the nutrients in the wet middle). Wet Silage allows the animal to receive the nutrients it needs without having to eat a ton in the case her appetite hasn’t reached the levels required by her lactating body to stay healthy and without strain and stress.

I want to choose from the diversity available, so I want to know all about product. Is it pasteurized only once and what tempreature?How many minutes?

Hi, 
Thanks again for reaching out, really appreciate your passion for details.  To answer your question our grass-fed milk is pasteurized a single time to a very high QA/QC standard.  The pasteurization process you are referring to is common in UHTST pasteurization methods defined in our last correspondence.  AGN Roots does not recommend milk being exposed to these very high temperatures, and certainly not for multiple passes.  Generally, low temperature pasteurization more commonly known as Vat pasteurization requires very high QA/QC standards and takes more time, as we mentioned a minimum of 30 min at minimum lethality temperatures.  When producing a high quality grass-fed whey protein, to ensure the preservation of all fragile nutrients, vat pasteurization of the milk is highly sought after and indicative of smaller batches! Thank you for the question, to best answer we won’t assume to know anything from the competing brands but can focus on the more obvious differences.

Every company can post pictures of lush green pastures and cows, however the facts are that 99% of whey sold online that claims to be Grassfed is sourced from CAFOs domestically or from mass diary export countries of incredibly low quality.
