Excellent for violin varnish
A superior, consistent colored, and clean rosin that is ideal for making good violin varnish. This rosin melts quickly and blends well with artist grade cold-pressed linseed oil.

Great for beeswax wrap- hard to work with
I bought this specifically to make beeswax wrap and it works wonderfully and for a good price. I gave this a 4 star rating for a couple reasons. When trying to open the bag, the top ripped very easily, but the seal works well so it’s not a big deal. One of the pieces has a gray side which I don’t believe is a part of the actual resin because no other pieces look like it. When melting this product, as I’m sure all resins are- it takes an extremely long time and I had crushed the pieces into powder for easier melting, but when they got hot they actually just stuck together into a glob so no matter how you start it will take a while. I am really happy with how it made my wrap sticky. I would advise covering all surfaces, wearing gloves and using materials that you don’t care about when working with this as it is super sticky and hard to get off of any surface.

It works as incense
I noticed negative reviews in regards to using this product for incense after i ordered it. This species of pine colophony is different from the other colophony ive had yet it is still good. This type has a pine needle/ sap fragrance more than a citrus it is suttle at first but last long after the smoke clears. Colophony like copal melts into a liquid when placed on coal so you have to use a tiny bit at a time or you will put the coal out and it will not smoke. So only use a tiny chip on coal and wait until the smoke stops before adding more. If it melts and doesnt smoke that is because too much is on the heat source at once. This mixes well with palo santo wood chips, cedarwood and sandalwood.

This product is useless as incense
It has very little scent at all and it wa about 1/3 powder. I am an incense connoisseur and I purchase a lot of incense products and this one is not very good at all. It might be useful in other ways as the ad states but it isn't useful as incesne for sure.

Great value for this product.
I cast items out of lead alloy and need something to flux the metal with. That means you use a substance to clean the melted metal in the pot. There is a product that is sold to do this with that doesn't smoke when used but is very corrosive and causes molds and any ferrous metals to rust. Molds are expensive and I can't afford to be cleaning rust off them and anything else close by that gets affected. That is where I prefer to use the pine rosin to do the cleaning. Yes it smokes a lot but a match ignites the smoke and it's all over in a minute or less. It does a fantastic job of cleaning the melt and doesn't leave any harmful residue. I realize there are many uses for this rosin and I'll look into that eventually but for now I have enough to keep me fluxing for years as it only takes a very small bit to do the trick.
