Very helpful book
The exercises in this book have helped me move on despite the fact that I still have Spinal Stenosis. The book is not meant to be a cure but the way the exercises strengthen the back muscles make life with stenosis much better. I can now walk much further than I could before which is a boon to me. I highly recommend the book if you intend to be faithful to doing the exercises daily. If you don't intend to them daily, then don't bother.

Like Having Your Own Personal Therapist
I bought this book to help with the spinal stenosis I was diagnosed with two months ago. It's really informative and goes into lots of detail how this condition developed and how to handle it. I'm working slowly on the exercises; and even though I don't see much of an improvement in my pain yet, I'm confident that I will. Exercises certainly beat having spinal fusion surgery, so I'm glad to have something that will help me avoid the surgery.

The recommended exercises in this book eliminated my pain.from sciatica.
This book did for me what no doctor, physical therapist, or chiropractor was able to do. With 3 stretching exercises and 2 exercises, recommended by the author, the daily pain I had as a result of sciatica stemming from lower back pain was eliminated. Thank you Jim Johnson!

Like it
I have been in PT for my back and trying to improve my general conditioning. I was still having some back pain. I had my therapist/trainer incorporate this into my workout about 6 weeks ago. I am feeling better. It will take me quite awhile to determine if this is the solution, because I do get better and backslide, so I am continuing this workout as a permanent lifestyle change. I will only be able to tell over time and none of us are the same. Our problems can all be different. It is worth a try. Basically, the book is a lot longer, in my opinion than it needs to be, but then I have learned a lot of what he talks about so it might be more valuable to a newcomer to back problems. I do think it is definitely worth it to give this a try. It makes sense but it takes consistency to prove if it will work for you. You must follow the program, or I know it will not be of benefit. I am feeling better and I noticed that I started getting better more quickly after we incorporated this program.

Worth reading for intro into multifidus muscle
The book is almost simplified too much in the beginning. Anyone who has been dealing with spine issues, has some idea about the basic anatomy. I almost didn't continue reading. When it got to the part about the multifidus muscle, then it got my attention. I have been battling back problems for over a decade. The last 3 years, I have been to 3 different physical therapists, 4 or more chiropractors, and 3 different orthopedic surgeons. Not a peep about this muscle. He does include studies which I felt lended credit to what he was writing. His exercises and charts at the end of the book also a plus. His realistic approach to the exercises, based on research, made sense to me. I've been through all sorts from the previous "experts" and most didn't help or even made things worse. I'm doing even more research into the multifidus muscle, as I believe for me that my problem is muscular, and is very much fixable if I don't let anyone else screw up anymore areas. No surgery-there's never a guarantee of success, and the patient assumes all the risk.

Written in a way to easily understand!
Finally, an easy-to-understand write up of spinal stenosis! I really like the writing style of this author and he provides some very good solutions for decreasing the pain in the back due to stenosis. I highly recommend this book to anyone suffering from spinal stenosis if only to really and truly understand what is going on in your back.

Thank you for this book!!!
The exercises in this book have been extremely helpful for me in dealing with my spina lstenosis. I feel myself getting stronger (I also do other exercises and swim 3 times per week), but the multifidus exercise is, I believe, a key. I am very happy to have found this book.

self-help
great book, am currently going through the exercises, and feel slight improvement. The beauty of the book is you are able to read text which is easy to understand, and although the exercises may seem simple and not very long, it encourages you to exercise daily. instructive explanations of each exercise, and you can photocopy the exercise plan to help you record.

Back Pain ( Spinal Stenosis )
This is a really simple book to follow, thanks to the author indeed. The exercises are clear and for very short ( each) time. I have taken to this book quite nicely.

To basic, to expensive
I bought this book about 6 months ago and followed the regime described. I found the book reasonably informative and to some degree useful but in the meantime I bought and read some other books and watched few videos all about lower back pain or back pain in general.I can recommend this book only as a starter though as there are other more informative and comprehensive alternatives costing about 5 pounds each. Costing more than 20 pounds this book is hugely overpriced and by no means covers all you would like to know about your back and your back pain. There is limited number of exercises and you may need more comprehensive approach to find what works for you.Personally, I found pilates back books and videos much more useful and helping. Three stars for this one - maximum.
