Hults Bruk 840702 Almike Hatchet - 1 lb Head, 16" Handle

Okay first off my thoughts were, do I really want to spend this kind of money on a hatchet? I wanted something that I could survive with, you know trust my life with. The basis of that is a good foundation, a reliable hatchet. For survival you need to be able to build a fire, build a shelter, and preform the tasks of a knife. The quality of this hatchet is unbeatable and the cosmetics scream put me to work. It is extremely sharp and holds its edge well. When it’s at work it feels like a natural extension of your arm. The effort is a good bit less to get the job done as with past hatchet’s. I added 8’ of paracord to protect the handle, another 12’ for the hand loop and added loops in it to hold a fero-rod and sharpening rod. I hope that one day this little hatchet will carry on down the line to my kids and grandkids and so on. With all that said I am really proud to own the Hults Bruk Almike, money well spent.

Love this little axe. Very high-quality, hand made craftsmanship. Has been great for camping trips and multiple uses around the home. Holds an edge extremely well, very well balanced and fits great in the hand. No disappointments here!

Great temper. Perfect mix of toughness & hardness. Rarely needs a touch up sharpening, doesn't chip on knots. Nice sheath, beautiful axe & good, all purpose handle, with even the woodgrain running in the correct direction. Well worth buying the premium model. Better product than the gransfors in my opinion.

I'm more than happy with the craftsmanship of this beautiful little axe! The fit and finish are outstanding, the edge was mirror polished and shaving sharp right out of the box. The haft is perfect, with great grain orientation even though I doubt it'll see the same level of stress as a full size axe. The quality exceeds what I'd hoped after reading other reviews and I would absolutely choose this again if I had to.

There's just something special about a tool you know will last and with care can be handed down. Handle is American hickory - I previously reviewed it as "beautifully finished" but upon closer inspection I must retract that assessment and deduct one star from the review. Attached photo shows rather rough, uneven finish work on the handle - minimal care and sanding would have eliminated that, I expect better from a tool of this price and purported quality. The head is a thing of beauty - shaving sharp edge (really sharp!!), clean but distinctive surface finish (they say every one's a bit different), brand stamping looks cool and adds a touch of class. Sheath is supple, quality leather and can be used as belt carry. It's (almost) too nice to want to actually use...but this is a tool that needs to be used. NOTE - I purchased Helko Werk (German) leather handle guard (photos). Also highly recommended. Some people use paracord for this application - you want to protect the handle against overstrikes, don't want to knick that beautiful American hickory. Consider doing likewise.

Very beautifully made axe ! It came razor sharp from the Factory that you can shave with. Hold its edge really well. The handle is nice with Darker color than photos which I like. The edge can be a bit tough to work on but it last longer
