Excellent wood burning stove for the money.
Bought new this summer. Very heavy install (461 lb). Worth all the effort. Lights off quickly.catalytic combuster gets up to 500 degrees F and I kick the combuster in as the exhaust path. Stack temperature starts off at about 1100 degrees F without the combustor in. Combuster temp. rises to about 1200 degrees F, stack temperature falls to about 600 degrees F and the stove body temperature never goes above 500 degrees F. With a fair load of hard wood, the stove stays like this for about 2.5 hours. The stove runs like a dream for a month now. To get a fire going, use twisted news paper, kindling and open the ash drawer for about 20 seconds after lighting with a match. Off she goes. Never open the ash drawer when you have a large fire in the stove, or are in combuster mode. That could be deadly. The stove draws nicely and I run it with bleed air only after the combustor temperature gets to 600 degrees F. If operated wisely and intelligently, this stove is dream. Consumes little wood for its size and runs well. We have used catalytic combuster wood stoves since 1983. This stove is the best I have encountered. The glass gets a little sooted up, but no problem. Just scrape with a razor blade.to clean.Pag

dutchwest 2ndyear
I purchased a dutchwest stove around two years ago maybe three. Non cat type with the optional blower. Had to upgrade because my wife is the primary user during day. The old stove required a secret handshake to operate. This dutchwest is awesome, my favorite part is how you can open the ash tray door and instantly reboot the fire. It will go all night stoked at eleven pm damped down. Seven am pile a small batch of wood on top of the ashes open the ash door boom new raging fire. I am writing this review now because I am on line looking for new gaskets for stove. Hope this helps enjoy

good stove, puts out alot of heat
I purchased this stove with a catalytic converter 8 years ago, used from a retail stove business. I live in a 1,800 sq ft single level home and rely on it extensively from November through May. I live in the Pittsbugh environs (rural) and have oil heat as a back-up for those times when the fire doesn't hold over, when I'm away more than 12 hours, etc.Strongly recommend this stove as being durable, dependable and quality made. When I lived in Maine I used a larger Consloidated Dutchwest (bought out by Vermont a dozen years later) for more than 18 years as my sole source of heat in a c.1812, 2-story house!!!!!!! P.S. I have to replace the ceramic catalytic honeycomb in this one for the first time this year!!! Thinking about getting the steel version instead of the ceramic!
