Got this to take to craft shows and it was great. Used an old iPhone to grab free wi-fi at the venues, Clicked in the reader, tapped the PayPal app and off I went. Enter the amount, slide the card and get a signature from the customer. Increased my sales for sure. Was so happy to get rid of the mobile wi-fi generator and all the mess of card roller and receipts, lugging the laptop with me and all. At the end of the show, all I had to do was bring up the app and click one button to transfer the funds to my checking account. The rate was way lower than my former service too so I'm super happy all the way around. One note: if you sign up online, the reader is NOT automatically sent to you so I recommend calling them as soon as you download the app or before. The reader is free, eventually, once you send for the refund - that's pretty cool to me.

What this item does NOT tell you in the description is that a credit check is required for its use. if you buy this product and have a bad credit history, you will be ineligible to use this product. I have a small crafting/jewelery business that i am starting up and have customers in line to buy my merch and i cannot use this reader to do business because of my back school loans and medical bills. Don't waste your money on this item. Especially if you run a small business and dint have good credit personally.

Works so easy with app! Used it for selling Girl Scout cookies at the cookie booth! Simple and effective to make more sales! When customers said, "We have no cash" our response was, "we do take credit!" Saved the day!

I have rewritten this review. The original is included below. The reason for the new review and new rating is BlackBerry has a new Operating System which allows this product to work. The PayPal Here software is still an Android app but, it is officially available for BlackBerry 10 phones through Amazon App Store for BlackBerry 10. Now that the software is official, the card reader works. I can take payments on my BlackBerry Z30 with a swipe of a credit card. This is a nice convenience, is faster and less expensive than using the photo capture method I previously used. I knocked off one star because the software does not use NFC to accept tap to pay options, even though BlackBerry supports that. Perhaps, now that Apple is apparently adding NFC to iPhone, use of NFC payments will become common place in the USA. As it is in other mature markets. It is not really fair to blame the card reader for failings of the software but, the card reader is of little use without software. Now that the software is fixed, the card reader works. It has a good design to sit on top of the phone. It seems well made and robust enough to endure life on the road. Instead I am stuck trying to make an Android app, which has pathetic security, work on my BlackBerry. While the PayPal Here Android app works on my BlackBerry Z30, the stupid reader won't. PayPal should make a BB10 version of the app.

Doing a credit card transaction needs to be glitch-free. Every time. No surer way to lose credibility with a customer that stumbling around with a gadget that involves THEIR confidential information and money. This device fails maybe 50% of the time. And when it does, it's time to punch in all the credit card information and pay even higher confiscatory rates to PayPal. And I've seen other merchants struggle with these. I look forward to a better technology for low-cost, mobile payments.

if you think this is a good deal contact PayPal. PayPal will have you apply for a business and then will send you one for free if they approve your business. I got mine a few days ago and it doesn't even register on any of my devices. A complete waist of money.

My reader arrived on time, however I had a redemption offer inside (that it doesn't expire until July 2016) but the code had already been used! How tacky!

This reader for phone is very practical and useful the truth, works very well and to make or receive any payment is very practical and safe, I recommend it
