Leather Treadle Belt - Old Tech, Works Well
I found a Singer 127 treadle machine with treadle, circa 1923, in a thrift store a few weeks back. Nostalgia! It was missing a functional treadle belt, so I ordered this product for the repair. I thought, "My great-grandmother could change a belt, so I can, too!" These belts come as a strap, not a loop, but the included awl enables you to poke a hole in the leather... Beware, the awl doesn't differentiate between leather and finger, although the rough leather does absorb blood quite nicely. You have to run the strap around the treadle wheel, through the machine base holes, and over the machine hand wheel track, then use clothespins or clamps to hold tension and keep the strap ends on your work surface. This is challenging to do. One playful swipe from your cat during the process and you have to start over. I fully recommend locking any felines in another room while you do this. Once set up, you have to stretch your belt taut, figure out your new belt size, draw a line where you want to cut it, and use cutting pliers to size the belt. Once sized and pierced, use the included staple to join the ends, and use pliers to bend the staple into the leather to secure. Once done, you should be able to sew. The belt worked very well, with just enough tension to prevent slipping. My only complaint is the leg workout. No wonder our ancestors women were so tough. Those treadle machines were no joke! Grandma could sew all day and have the muscle tone to crack a walnut between her thighs.

Leather is too smooth
I have a 1896 vs2 Singer 27. There are pros and cons to this set, and I'll try to cover all of it. I'm very new to treadles though so take this all with a grain of salt. The items in this set appear to be of good quality over all but I'll go over each of the items separately. The shears: They don't cut the leather like they're supposed to. They're very thin and flimsy. They wouldn't even cut thread. I just threw mine away. The awl: The awl looks flimsy but is actually quite strong! I'm very impressed by how much it can punch through. It does take muscle to punch through the leather straps BUT it can happen. I've also been using it to punch through other tough things including wood and it did decently. It's also great for getting old oil out of the oil ports. The bobbins: They are class 15, so they're the kind you can buy at any store. Aka the "typical" bobbin you think of when you hear of bobbins. Mine is a shuttle bobbin type so these aren't much use to me for my treadle. I will be using them for my modern machine though. They're... okay quality. About the same as a typical plastic class 15 one. I don't know if they work in the kind that take round bobbins so I'm not much help there. But if your treadle takes class 15 bobbins they'll take these. So your 1920s-30s machine might. Check against your machines serial number and manual. The belts: Easy to cut and work with. Very smooth. The smoothness is it's downfall. I have this thing so tight on my machine and the machine won't catch it. Most original belts were rougher. So just be aware that your machine might not catch it. Others say it works for them and I say that's great. It just didn't work out for me is all.

These are nice treadle machine belts.
The belts are fine, but quite difficult to install on the treadle machine wheel. They always are. no matter what brand I have bought. (I think there is a tool for installing treadle sewing machine belts, but they are expensive. It is worth the effort to put them on the wheel, and my machine works fine. I think that his is a good deal.

My machine is usable again!
I've had this a while now and it does the job. These are really hard to find and I couldn't use my old treadle machine without it. It's a slight hassle to get the right length, but that's the fault of the sewing machine, not this strap. I'm so happy it was available so I could get back to some of my sewing projects.

Really disappointing product. The product details says there multiple accessories involved in package, but only 2 belts are available in delivery package. I have returned the package, but second package also had same 2 belts only. Paying 499 is too high and not worth. Package list as per product description: 2 x sewing machine belts with hooks 2 pieces hemming clips 2 pieces needle threaders 2 pieces sewing machine spool 10 pieces sewing machines needles 1 piece sewing awl 1 piece sewing scissors
