Levi's Men's 513 Slim Straight Jean

These jeans are excellent and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a good fitting but not too fitted jean. However I ordered the Bellingham wash and what I received was not at all like the light blue show in the picture. It's a bit darker and more muted. Almost gray.So beware if you're looking for that wash, the picture is a little deceiving. EDIT: After returning the aforementioned grey/blue jeans I was sent a replacement and it was exactly the same as before. So if you're thinking about ordering the Bellingham style, BEWARE, the color is not as shown in the picture. If not for this it would have been a five start product. So thankful for this return policy though.

Okay, I know these are "Slim" jeans and I know everyone says one must be, well, slim in order to wear them. Right? And to some degree this makes sense: Slim guy, slim cut jeans. Larger guy, larger cut jeans. Well my husband is in his late 60s and things have sort of "shifted" around over the years. Specifically, everything from his butt and thighs has been redistributed to his abdomen. He is usually very, very hard to fit because most pants that fit around the waist are huge, baggy and sloppy looking everywhere else. Enter the 513; absolutely the best fitting pants I've ever seen him wear. They fit perfectly. Everywhere. So what's the deal? Why do these jeans fit so well and look so good? I really had to think about it and it took me many tries before I caught on. Since my husband refused to go to the store to buy some jeans, I was left to my own devices and I learned a lot about men's jeans (and Levi's in particular) in the process. I'm oversimplifying a bit (I'm not including rise) but there are generally two things that describe the way a pair of jeans will fit a man, aside from the waist size and the inseam. First, there's the "cut." This is how the pants fit in the rear and thighs. Levi's has eight general cuts, going from "tightest" in the rear and thigh to "loosest" in the rear and thigh: Skinny, Slim, Athletic, Original, Regular, Relaxed, Comfort, and Loose. Second, there's the look and style of the leg. Levi's has four leg cuts: Skinny, Taper, Straight and Boot. So, add this all up and there are four variables: 1. Waist size; 2. Inseam (or length); 3. Cut; and 4. Leg style. For the most part Levi's simply mixes and matches the cut and leg style. So there is the 504 "Regular Straight" and the 508 "Regular Taper." Or there is the 559 "Relaxed Straight" and the 513 "Slim Straight," etc. Generally the "cut" is listed first followed by the "leg." ALL of the Levi's styles come in virtually any waist size and in virtually any length so as long as you get the right waist size, it will fit around the middle regardless of the cut (or the leg). So for an "average" proportioned guy, the 513 "Slim Straight" will run slim or close fitting in the thigh and seat. For my husband however, they fit like a "normal" pant would since he's so much smaller than average in the seat and thighs. Make sense? All of this assumes you get your correct, actual waist size so guys, don't skimp there even though it's tempting. Example: If I were trying to fit a short guy (say 30"L) with a small waist (say a 32"W), but with large thighs and a big rear end, I would probably start with something like the 550 "Relaxed Taper" or the 559 "Relaxed Straight" because the "Relaxed" cut will look "normal" on him (because he is larger than average in the seat and thighs). If the 550 and 559 are too tight in the seat and thighs, I'd move onto the next largest cut. I hope this helps those of you who are not of "average" proportion and are struggling to find a pair of normal fitting jeans. My husband never looked better and for the first time in FOREVER he actually likes his jeans. ADDITIONAL NOTE: NOT ALL 513s ARE MADE OF THE SAME MATERIAL! Once we discovered how well the 513s fit my husband, I was left with the task of finding the right wash. I was very surprised to discover that there are differences both in the materials that make up the denim and the weight of the denim itself. Some of the 513s are 100% cotton while others are cotton and 1% to 2% elastane (Spandex). Still others are a blend of polyester and cotton. Finally, the weight of the denim varies. Some 513s are "midweight" and others are "heavyweight." Based on my research here on Amazon and other websites (including Levi Strauss), I've compiled the following list of colors/washes, their materials, and the weight of the denim where possible. 1. Quincy: 100% cotton. 2. Lexicon: 78% Cotton, 16% Polyester, 6% Elastane. Stretch heavyweight denim (12 oz.) treated with a garment rinse. 3. Bastion: 98.6% Cotton, 1.4% Elastane. 4. Cash: 98% Cotton, 2% Elastane. Stretch heavyweight denim (12 oz.) treated with a garment rinse. 5. Bellingham: 99% cotton, 1% elastane. 6. Levine: 100% cotton. 7. The remaining washes/colors are all 98% cotton, 2% elastane according to another well known online retailer of Levi's (starts with a Z). I can personally tell you that the weights of the denim vary from medium (10 oz. to 11 oz.) to heavy (12 oz) but it appears as though Levi Strauss is no longer manufacturing many of the washes available here on Amazon and the information is no longer available on Levi's website. My husband ended up with three pairs of jeans: "Bastion" (a relatively dark rinse), "Sequoia" (a dark rinse with some minor distressing/lightening in areas), and "Quincy" (what I would call a medium blue shade). He originally balked at the idea of elastane/Spandex in his jeans and I assumed he would prefer the Quincy (the only one of the three that is 100% cotton). As it turns out, he doesn't wear the Quincy at all and prefers the Bastion and Sequoia. The addition of the bit of Spandex does a number of things: the jeans are much more comfortable because the Spandex helps them to move with you; the overall fit is better because the Spandex helps customize the size; and the jeans do not stretch out as much as 100% cotton, therefore retaining their shape and looking "fresh" for a longer period of time. You cannot tell by looking at the jeans that they contain Spandex. Again, I hope the information I've provided helps all of you, especially those with less than ideal proportions.

I like the fit of the Levi 511 jeans, only they are too tight over my western/harness boots when I wear them. Levi 514's fit over the boots well, but they are way too baggy. So, I thought I'd try a pair of these 513's thinking they would have a little more room in the foot opening. The first thing I noticed was that these 513's had way more s-t-r-e-t-c-h than any I had ever purchased before, not good-not bad, they just have a lot of stretch. Tried them on and they fit just like my 511's. Put my boots on and they were just as tight over them as the 511's. So I took the 511's and the 513's and held the foot opening right on top of each other to compare: There is no difference at all. Same exact size foot opening. If you would like a little to lot more stretch, these might be for you. I think I will stick with the 511's for now. I just wish Levi could figure out how to put a boot cut on a skinny jean. But no, if you get boot cut it will come on a baggy pair of jeans. Baggy, baggy, baggy. Go figure!

I've had a couple pairs of 513's. The knees blew out on all of them. I recently bought three pairs of the 511's with the stretch fabric and really liked them. After washing they are pretty tight (like leggings to me). I wanted to go back to the 513's but try the stretch fabric because my old ones just fit perfect. The two new pairs of 32x32 513's are two inches longer than every other pair of Levi's I have (7 other 511's, 513's and 514's in 32x32). I guess that's what I get for buying jeans on the internet. Lesson learned!

I'm a relatively fit dude but not overly muscular or skinny. BMI is around 25. I have gluts, calves and thighs but they are not your couch potato lard style where you get spaghetti legs with no muscles on your legs and your butt starts to become like a women's behind. Rather I'm atheletic. The jeans, no matter how I pull up on them, gets stuck at the top of my thighs. Mind you, there is room underneath by gluts -about an inch of inseam - but won't come up because it won't fit the top of my thighs. Also there is a lot of room in the gluts. I think Levi's understand your typical American no excersize butt with tiny legs. You know the typical guy at the mall wearing cargo shorts with white chicken legs. No wonder there are so many reviews left by women wearing these. If you are masculine guy with any kind of muscles please buy other brands with other styles. On top of that these are very thin fabric. Since when did jeans get so thin? Again, these reminds me of womens jeans designed to show off curves. Men's jeans are supposed to come down straight with only gradual taper. My high school teacher who had a small pot belly with tiny legs and somewhat large behind would have been perfect for this.

I usually wear 514's w32 l30...wanted to try a slim fit cut so opted for the 513. Bought the bellingham and the grey/black 3d. Both same size as my 514's. Firstly the zipper is way longer than the 514..which isn't very modern...Secondly the bellingham fit like a w34 l32!! The grey/black 3d seems a to be the correct size although haven't worn them out yet. My gf hates the bellingham because it makes me look really fat due it being oversized so thats a new jeans I won't be wearing ever! The stretch in d fabric is appreciated. .but it seems that these 513's are one size bigger..so if u wear 31 get 30 for example. I'm very disappointed in the bellingham.

I absolutely love the 513 Slim Straight Jeans. Im a 6 foot, 150 pound slim build guy, i prefer 33Wx32L size. Some pairs fit fantastic and have great touch and material while others not so much. Im not a big fan of this "stretch material" Levis has done but its do able. Pairs i Love: Jet Black Jeans: One of my favorite pairs of jeans ever. Fit awesome. Bowman Lake : Greatest Pair of jeans ive ever owned.. Love it. (Doesnt have the "stretch" stuff) Caraway: i love these khaki pants, fit great, not loose and stiff or rough Chocolate Truffle: First time owning a color pair of jeans not black or blue. Fit great. Similar to Caraway khaki Blue Byrd or Blue Stone: Love it, a little stiff and rough but it will shape to your legs Hunters Moon: Darker, looks black still love the feel and fit Now the Ones i hate.. Atom: i love the color but really dislike the loose material Tattler: really stiff and tight Mono Gray: also stiff and unexpectedly short in length Leftover : too baggy and loose True Chino: loose fitting and also short in length All the jeans have different sizes, material, and touch. I prefee the jeans that are a little stiff yet form fitting such as the Jet and Bowman Lake jeans. Hope this helps :)

I purchased a pair of the 513s because I had previously bought a pair of the 511s, which have Elastane and are very comfortable. When the 513s arrived, they were 100% cotton, contrary to what Amazon lists in the product description. For pants with a snug fit, Elastane is essential to comfort, otherwise they bind. I am returning these 513s with sadness. I actually like the cut better than the 511s because the bottom cuff is more relaxed and not as skinny as the 511s... but the Elastane is essential to either.
