It's for my soon to be 9yr old so it's not been used yet but the packaging is nice, I'll update this later.

Great starter microscope
Item arrived in scheduled time frame and was in proper condition when received. The material is comprised of a rubberized texture and seems durable enough for a 10 year old and little brother.

Not as shown
I dont know how it works yet, but right off the bat the description is wrong. I ordered it as shown black and i received a white one that looks alittle different.

Not sure yet if the item works but I was disappointed that the package came broken. Too bad. I loved their rock tumbler.

A disgrace to the National Geographic name
I purchased this item from a museum shop to teach my granddaughters a little about plant / animal cells and microscopes. I wasn't expecting even a classroom grade microscope at this price, but this is a total piece of junk. The image is very poor even at the lowest magnification, and really terrible / worthless using the two higher magnifications. The accessories are nice - several prepared slides and some other good items. If the microscope itself were even halfway passable, I would not give it such a low rating. But it's not passable and National Geographic should pull their name off this product. I emailed them, but just got a note from Disney (which runs their online shop) to return it to where I bought it. The receipt is long gone, however, so that's impossible. I'm going to try contacting someone at National Geographic HQ, since the ad here on Amazon says they stand behind their products. I ended up ordering what did turn out to be a pretty good microscope from Amazon, the Omano 40x - 400x monocular, full size student microscope. It was about $129, and does have decent images throughout that magnification range - not as good as college bio lab microscopes, of course, but fine for middle school / high school students.
