I love the 1994 movie ''The Mask" starring Jim Carrey
I love the 1994 movie ''The Mask" starring Jim Carrey. The sequel "Son of the Mask'' starring Jamie Kennedy wasn't all that bad either. Once I read this original comic book that was by Dark Horse Comics I noticed some changes between this comic and both the movies. Unlike the movies The Mask was referred to as "Big Head", rather than "The Mask", Stanley Ipkiss, who in the movie was played by the comical & funny Jim Carrey was more geeky in the comic than the movie and has a girlfriend named Kathy whom kills him later in the comic who also briefly wears the mask. Lt. Kellaway later wears the mask as well while in the movie he never did wear the mask at all. Unlike the movies, the mask was a superhero in the movies depending on the wearer's personality, the mask would only as dangerous as the mask's wearer. In the comics, whether you are good or bad, the mask would become an antihero, insane, and extremely dangerous. I really enjoy this comic book, I like Stanley Ipkiss better in the movie than in the comics. Also The Mask is rated PG-13 & Son of the Mask is rated PG, The Mask Dark Horse comics would probably be rated R. The Mask I would give a 8/10, Son of the Mask I would give 6/10, and The Mask Dark Horse Comic I would give 5.5/10. Good comic book adaptation ! I would recommend letting your children watch The Mask & Son of the Mask when they are in their 13 years & up , and The Mask Dark Horse comic when they are 17 years & up. definitely suggested for MATURE READERS ONLY !

Better and crazier than the movie could have been!
Before I read the comic, I only knew of the Mask in the Jim Carry movie. After I read it, boy was I surprised by it's malignant nature. Yet, I enjoyed it very much. The comic takes a lot of liberty to develop the Mask with every character who wears it. The bottom line: the Mask brings out the worst of every person. And it shows, especially with the first person to wear it, which was Stanley Ipkiss. The artwork is also fantastic. With every new issue, it began to adopt common tropes of 90's comic art style, but it remains unique and true to itself. The Mask is grossly drawn. It gives its wearer a big green head, a sinister grin with oversized teeth, and giant eyes. The Mask is drawn with great detail, in order to look intimidating and creepy. The rest of the characters are also well rendered. They all have their unique perks, and become more interesting as you read on. Doug Mahnke and John Arcudi do a fantastic job fleshing out the story.Overall, I am more than pleased to have purchased this collection of the Mask. I know some of you may be hesitant to buy this volume at such a high price, but it's completely worth it (in my opinion).

The most important thing to know is that I wrote an amazon review and this I contributed to society
Wow that’s bloody. Don’t expect to like this comic just because you liked the movie. Like seriously. Sometimes it’s a little hard to actually tell what’s going on because the artwork can get a little busy but it’s still a good read as long as you don’t mind innocents getting slaughtered and non innocents getting tortured THEN slaughtered. Oh and it came in perfect condition so the only thing you need to worry about is the comic itself.

psychotic fun. It is virtually nothing like the Jim Carrey ...
The Mask is a bundle of gory, psychotic fun. It is virtually nothing like the Jim Carrey movie, because this one is so disgustingly gory that it makes your skin crawl. If you like reading stories where the good guys don't win, and the bad guys don't fare much better, this one's for you.

A must for man comic fan
I wish the world would see this version of the mask on the big screen, instead of just the Jim Carrey version. This comic is like Deadpool before Ryan Reynolds. The sarcastic anti-hero. This comic is a must for any Mask fan

Awesome
After re-discovering my childhood love for the movie, I bought this book. I loved it. It is much darker and bloodier than the movie, the artwork is great, the character in question is psychotic and hilarious. All in all, I greatly enjoyed the book and would recommend anyone who is a fan of darker comics to pick it up. For me personally, I went back and bought all three of the omnibuses right after putting this one down.

this was NOTHING like the movie
well, this was NOTHING like the movie. I ordered this because I was beginning to get more into older non DC or Marvel comics and loved the movie growing up. this book hits you right in the jaw if you expect anything like that. it's very violent, brutal, but still zany and pretty funny. it wasn't what i expected but i enjoyed it a lot. it would be a five star review but the copy i ordered was new and when i got it that was not the case.

Fun, gory thrill ride!
Many know the Jim Carrey Mask movie, but very few know the John Arcudi dark horse comic. First, if you're expecting the cartoony charm and romance of the movie, then this isn't what your looking for. This is an extremely violent thrill ride full of horror and fun. The book collects the original short stories from Mayhem, and the original Mask mini-series that follows on directly. The Mayhem stories however are surprisingly weak. The same creative team is behind them, but the quality of the writing and illustrations are a lot worse then the mini-series. But don't let that deter you, once you get into the original series it has a serious quality upgrade, with beautiful illustrations and great writing. The only problem with the physical quality was that I ordered a copy new and what I received had a very damaged spine. There were small rivets and rips in it, and I don't know what caused them. However the inside was fine.

Good, but for the Gore...
I too delved into the MASK universe because of the Jim Carrey movie. I knew it would be a fair bit more violent than the film, but I had no idea.I could handle a few blood spurts and broken limbs, but the amount and level of bodily harm (for lack of a better term, since I don't want to overuse 'gore') was really disturbing. Just fair warning to anyone who's reading this with the movie in mind. Be prepared for a difference. Also the initial animation needs a bit of patience. The first half of this graphic novel isn't the pinnacle of well-drawn, and the lettering for MASK's dialogue starts off as kinda hard to make out. But after the half-way point, it all picks up. The animation becomes brilliant and fluid, the MASK's dialogue becomes much more readable, and the blood and such becomes more bearable as someone with an actual conscience gets ahold of the MASK.It is actually a pretty good read; just be ready to be a little bit spooked, or else you'll start seeing that green face around every dark corner...

Delightfully dark and more than worth your time
I LOVE THIS COMIC! I received it way earlier than I expected, which was good. I read the whole collection in like 20 - 30 mins and it was amazing. I had some knowledge going in and I knew what I was in for. I was not disappointed. I feel like tre comic was the cherry on top of what really got me pumped. It came with a signed illustration from one of the original creators. Needless to say I flipped.

Really happy, arrived earlier than expected
Really happy, arrived earlier than expected, bit more damage than I thought but for a comic this old I guess it normal.

cant put it down beyond amazing
This graphic novel (or comic book) is beyond the best graphic novel I've ever read I can get to read the full story of The Mask (or Big Head as he is called in the comics) and this is all because of the film adaptation starring Jim Carrey. The book is more darker than the film which is a comedy mixed with violence in the motion picture. and for those who haven't read this book spoiler alert Stanley Ipkiss dies from Kathy wearing The Mask. This book is about as amazing as The Mask movie you just cant stop getting hooked on the stories about The Mask. Thank you Amazon
