Q: Does this battery come with necessary cords for recharging & connecting to GoTo base?

Yes, it comes with the cable to connect directly to the telescopes power input as well as a charging cord. It lasts for along time on my Celestron 9.25 gps xlt. Just charge it, plug it in and go.

Q: will this unit work in tandem with the installed telescope batteries (8 AA)?

Yes, I have both. The telescope go-to works much better with the powertank, but I still use the batteries to position the telescope for set up or take down.

Q: How long is the cord?

From battery to telescope is 6 feet. Charging cord is 4 feet.
